Passport To Cinema
June –September 2016
Tyneside Cinema. 10 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6QG
This summer, Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema is offering the chance to see the world without leaving NE1 with a season of films and events from around the world.
Every fortnight from June to September, the independent cinema will give you the chance to journey to a different country including European hotspots and far flung places, with a programme of new releases, family films and classic cinema from that country. They will also be serving food and drink and putting on events inspired by each destination.
The season is currently in France with films such as Jean-Luc Godard’s landmark drama Vivre Sa Vie, classic thriller Diva, old school animation A Cat In Paris, and an exclusive preview of Francofonia, a part-documentary, part-drama about the history of The Louvre.
Passport To Cinema will also journey to Denmark, Thailand, Brazil and Italy and feature regional premieres of dark Danish comedy Men & Chicken starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal), Thai drama How To Win At Checkers, and Boy & The World, alongside much-loved titles like Italian For Beginners, City Of God and Charulata.
The season will also feature some great family films from these destinations too, including A Cat In Paris from France, The Robot Giant from Thailand, Boy & The World from Brazil, and Happy Mother’s Day from India. Families can get a Family Ticket for four for each of these films from just £25.
The Tyneside Bar Café will also be offering food and drink inspired by each destination, as well as special editions of some of their most popular events including a Bollywood Afternoon Tea and a Brazilian Supper Club.
Tyneside Cinema’s Head Of Programme, Holli Keeble said:
“We wanted to provide our audiences with an alternative summer programme made up of films that they might not have seen before. Passport To Cinema offers an opportunity to travel the world, to experience countries and cultures through film without leaving Newcastle – it’s the ultimate staycation.”
The Cinema will also be giving out their own passports for the season featuring information about all of the films and events taking place in the season. Audience members can get their passports stamped every time they see a film in the season. Once they’ve collected four stamps they will be able to get a half-price ticket for the next film they see in the season.
Passport To Cinema runs from Monday 13 June – Sunday 4 September. For more information and ticket booking visit www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/passport-to-cinema or call 0191 227 5500.
