Dates Announced for August's NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week

Clear your diaries because NE1 has released the dates of August’s NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week in association with the Tyne and Wear Metro. The event will run from Monday 4th to Sunday 10th August, and now is the time to make reservations at over 100 restaurants taking part in this summer’s much-anticipated event.
Working closely with headline sponsor, Tyne and Wear Metro, NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week turns the spotlight on Newcastle’s vibrant foodie scene, offering diners the chance to enjoy some of the city’s finest venues at discounted prices of £15, £20, and £25 per person. Over 58,000 diners enjoyed January’s event, and in 2024, the two Newcastle Restaurant Weeks delivered an economic boost of £2.2 million to participating venues.
Some of the city’s newcomers were among the first to sign up for NE1’s August event, including Mowgli, Dakota Bar & Grill, Pho, Colmans at Fenwick and Maki & Ramen. These new restaurants, along with other, much-loved and long-established venues, including Blackfriars, Khai Khai, Tomahawk, and 21, will participate in the week-long event.
Newcastle’s Restaurant Week was the first of its kind in the UK when it was launched in 2011. Designed to support the industry at traditionally quiet times of the year – August during the school summer holidays, and January in the post-Christmas lull – the event has transformed these weeks into two of the busiest in the restaurant calendar.
Backed by a heavyweight marketing, PR, and social media campaign, the event has grown in stature year on year with more participating restaurants, more diners and the whole city benefiting from the buzz created. Public transport operators, other leisure and cultural venues all benefit from the week, and NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is widely emulated with cities across the UK launching events using the Newcastle model.
Rachel Fenwick, Head of Marketing and Events at NE1, said, “Newcastle is famous for its amazing and diverse hospitality scene, and we’re proud and excited to be hosting another NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week to celebrate and support the industry. This event not only offers fantastic value for diners but also delivers a major economic boost to restaurants while creating a real buzz in the city. We are committed to shining the spotlight on the industry and bringing people together to enjoy all that Newcastle’s food scene has to offer.”
Sarah McCourt, Head of Communications and Marketing at Nexus, said: "Newcastle Restaurant Week is a brilliant celebration of the city’s vibrant food scene, and we’re proud to support it. With Metro stations just a short walk from all of the participating venues, it’s never been easier for people across Tyne and Wear to enjoy fantastic dining deals while travelling sustainably. It’s a perfect partnership that brings people together to experience the best of what Newcastle has to offer."
Commenting on the event, one of the original participants, Andy Hook, owner and Managing Director of Blackfriars and Dobson & Parnell, who has taken part in every Restaurant Week event since its launch in 2011, said: “Newcastle Restaurant Week is a cornerstone of our busy restaurant calendar and a true celebration of Newcastle’s restaurant scene. It offers fantastic deals for diners while giving restaurants the chance to showcase their venues and signature dishes to both new guests and loyal regulars.
“Over the past 15 years, Restaurant Week has encouraged new diners into our restaurants, who quickly become regulars after experiencing what we have to offer.
“The impact of the event goes far beyond the restaurants and diners; it benefits the whole city. Staff enjoy guaranteed hours during what have become two of the busiest weeks of the year, suppliers see increased orders, and local businesses from neighbouring pubs to transport operators all benefit thanks to the scale and reputation of NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week.”
