A Dark Comedy Sing-Along Karaoke Theatre Show is Coming to Newcastle

Sh*t Life Crisis is touring the North of England, coming to Alphabetti Theatre Newcastle in June.

Silent Uproar is a northern-based theatre company creating experiences for an alternative theatre crowd, staging exceptional northern talent and covering daring and challenging topics in an accessible format.

Raw and real, join us down for the night to belt along together to the soundtrack of life. It’s the most fun you’ll have questioning life, death, and everything in between.

Award-winning theatre company, Silent Uproar, has announced their first touring show of 2025, Sh*t Life Crisis, a hilarious new karaoke play by Newcastle’s Olivia Hannah (Braids). The show is a dark comedy about living, survival, grief and friendship, focusing on two friends and their journey through and after having cancer.

Audiences can expect to laugh, cry and join in belting songs with the cast throughout. The show follows Grace as she has smashed cancer with the constant support from her ride-or-die friend Abbie, but living after survival has since felt like a joke. While writing a personal memorial, audiences follow Grace as she looks back on the journey of following Abbie’s encouragement while struggling to get back to living again.

Tickets for Sh*t Life Crisis are on sale now.

Olivia Hannah, the show’s writer said “This play has been percolating for a long time, mainly because it feels so important to get it right. It’s not just about the story itself, but how it’s told. Making it a karaoke show feels like the perfect evolution for it and Silent Uproar are the perfect collaborators. I’m so excited to see it come to life!

Silent Uproar is a theatre company based in Hull, developing shows from new northern writers. Audiences will remember them from their sell-out theatre experiences such as A Super Happy Story About Feeling Super Sad, their hit-success dinner theatre experience The Night of the Werewolves, and recent girl riot punk musical, Dead Girls Rising. The company prides themselves as the only independently ran theatre company in their region, and making great nights out for alternative crowds.

Alex Mitchel, Artistic Director of Silent Uproar and Director of Sh*t Life Crisis says: “We first came across Olivia’s work when she applied for our writer support programme Troublemakers in 2021 with an early version of Shit Life Crisis, we loved Olivia’s humour and skill when talking about complicated, raw and knotty experiences in life. We are really overjoyed to bring this show to life, and give it and Olivia Hannah the platform they deserve

The company is also looking for local cancer support and survivor groups to join them for a performance, offering concessions for groups who have experience with cancer. They are also currently seeking contact with local groups to talk about support before and after the show. The company is asking groups and individuals to get in touch via their Instagram @silentuproartheatre for discount or to get involved.

Jenni Harrison, Audience Development Associate at Silent Uproar says: “We cover challenging topics in accessible ways with the intention to connect with audiences and bring more people to have a flipping good night out. It is at the core of what we do to make entertainment for crowds who perhaps don’t feel as included in the conversation or that their voices are heard.”

Sh*t Life Crisis will be touring Goole (20 May), Hull (21 – 23, 29 – 31 May), Lancaster (27 – 28 May), Keswick (4 June), Newcastle (5 – 7 June). You can get your tickets to Sh*t Life Crisis on Silent Uproar’s website now.
