From the Clothes Rail to the Runway: Newcastle Racecourse and Lumo Bring Ladies Day Style to the Tracks

Customers travelling with Lumo were treated to an unforgettable fashion experience as Newcastle Racecourse teamed up with the Newcastle based rail operator to transform an ordinary train journey into a moving catwalk ahead of Ladies Day 2026.

The surprise activation saw models showcase a selection of stylish Ladies Day-inspired looks onboard Lumo services between Morpeth and Newcastle on Thursday 2nd July, as the journey was transformed into a full train takeover. Customers enjoyed front-row seats to an exclusive onboard fashion show, while several lucky passengers took home tickets to this years Ladies Day as well as Say When vouchers, adding extra excitement to the experience.

The onboard showcase celebrated sustainable style from North East based pre-loved fashion service, The Style Social, offering raceday styling inspiration ahead of one of the region’s most anticipated social events.

The collaboration comes as Newcastle Racecourse prepares for its biggest Ladies Day yet taking place at Gosforth Park on Saturday 25th July. With 17,000 racegoers attending Ladies Day last year, this summer’s event returns with brand-new headline sponsor Say When, and will offer guests a jam-packed schedule of food, drink and entertainment.

The prestigious Style Awards will also return for 2026, with the top 10 best-dressed guests crowned on the day and multiple prizes up for grabs worth over £8,000.

Deborah Scott, Sponsorship Manager at Newcastle Racecourse, said: "Ladies Day is about so much more than racing, it's a celebration of fashion, confidence and having fun with friends, so bringing that excitement directly onto a Lumo train felt like the perfect way to build anticipation for this year's event.

"Partnerships like this help us to create memorable experiences while celebrating some incredible businesses in the North East. Working with Lumo and The Style Social has allowed us to showcase that incredible style can also be sustainable, while giving customers a truly unique surprise on their journey."

Richard Salkeld, Director of Communications & Partnerships at Lumo, said: "Our customers are used to travelling in style with Lumo, but an onboard catwalk certainly took that to another level. It was fantastic to welcome Newcastle Racecourse onboard and showcase off-the-rail fashion on one of our 100% electric trains, highlighting rail as an affordable and lower-carbon way to travel to one of the North East's biggest social and sporting events.

"We're incredibly proud to be based in Newcastle and to work with organisations that help shine a spotlight on everything the region has to offer. "

Ladies Day will take place on Saturday 25th July and will bring together a celebration of style and exciting racing action as guests come dressed to impress for a day of fashion and fizz. Racegoers are encouraged to book their tickets before Sunday 5th July to beat the price rise and secure max saver tickets.
