Clarke Mairs LLP kickstarts Tynedale RFC tour

A leading North East law firm is scrumming down with a local rugby squad in support of their international trip. Clarke Mairs LLP, based in Newcastle, has announced its sponsorship of the Tynedale Rugby Football Club (TRFC) Under 16s’ Amsterdam tour. Tynedale RFC, based in Corbridge, was founded in 1870 and is the biggest community sports club in the Tyne Valley, covering 57 acres. More than 400 children are members of its thriving youth section, and the club has the largest Under 16 squad in the county. Clarke Mairs is the main sponsor of this year’s Under 16 trip to Amsterdam, which has become an annual tradition at the club, dating back 15 years. The Clarke Mairs logo will adorn the shirts of the team as they play two fixtures with two renowned Dutch squads – Haarlem Rugby Club and The Pink Panthers Rugby Club - during the four-day tour, which will also involve cultural visits to local landmarks. The players, who were county champions last year, come from a range of schools around the North East – including Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, Dame Allan’s School, Newcastle Royal Grammar School, Prudhoe Community High School and St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School. Nick Oliver, lead coach for the Under 16s, said: “We’re very grateful to Clarke Mairs for coming on board to sponsor our Amsterdam tour. The trip will provide some brilliant memories for the players, and it’s set to be a true highlight of their rugby careers to date. “We have built strong relationships with the Dutch teams over the past 15 years and they visit us in Corbridge, so it’s a fantastic way for the teams to see new places and learn from each other. “There’s a wealth of talent in this team - 10 members played for the county last year, and three of our players have been involved with the Newcastle Falcons Academy, so it will be  great to see them take on new challenges abroad.” Tim Clarke, partner at Clarke Mairs, said: “We’re very happy to lend our support to Tynedale RFC Under 16s as they embark on their Amsterdam tour. It is very much a community club with a wonderful history, which has seen several generations of families grow up playing rugby there. “This is a brilliant opportunity for the players to meet young sportspeople in Amsterdam who share their enthusiasm for the game.” The Tynedale RFC Youth Section meet every Sunday morning and all abilities are welcome.
