Cineworld Newcastle Reveals Finished Refurbishment
Cineworld, the UK’s leading cinema chain, today has revealed that Cineworld Newcastle, located at The Gate, has undergone a major transformation to enhance the cinema and its offering for local cinemagoers. The upgrade includes a fully refurbished foyer and a ScreenX auditorium on its way.
Since acquiring the cinema from Empire in June 2017, the cinema has undergone an intensive refurbishment programme to bring the cinema up to the standards film fans expect from Cineworld. In December 2017, the cinema introduced 4DX, an immersive cinema experience which stimulates all five senses. Then, in late 2018, the cinema revealed a 390 seat Superscreen, 9 auditoriums updated with new seats and bigger screens, a revamped foyer and concession stands, refurbished restrooms and opened a brand new Starbucks café. The refurbishment will officially be completed on Friday 8th March with the unveiling of 4 more revitalised standard screens and ScreenX – the first of its kind in the North East.
ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection cinema technology expanding the traditional cinema screen to the side auditorium walls, creating a 270-degree viewing experience for the audience. Originally launched in South Korea, Cineworld Newcastle will be the ninth cinema in the UK to install the new technology.
Since launching globally in 2015, ScreenX has quickly and effectively increased its international reach, successfully screening both Hollywood blockbusters and local feature films alike. Past titles from major Hollywood studios include; Bohemian Rhapsody, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Aquaman. Upcoming films that movie fans can experience in ScreenX include the highly anticipated superhero films, Captain Marvel and Shazam.
