Cake decorating workshops on the rise at Blackfriars
Budding cake decorators are in for a treat this month thanks to a new course being whipped up at Blackfriars in Newcastle.
A special cake decorating workshop will take place on Saturday November 22 and Sunday November 23, and will be hosted by North East Sugar Crafter of the Year, Emma Bell, who bakes the celebratory cakes at the restaurant and Banquet Hall for a number of events including weddings, christenings and graduations.
The workshop, which runs from 10am -4pm on both days, will show customers a variety of ways to ice an eight inch cake just like the professionals do, and will include coffee, tea and lunch as well as all materials. Attendees can choose from a one-day workshop for £90, or a two-day session for £180.
Further workshops are being planned in the coming months for amateurs right through to more professional bakers and cake decorators.
Emma, who lives in Stanley was awarded the title of Sugar Crafter of the Year at the North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA) Sugarcraft Awards which took place at the Civic Centre in May.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to running my own workshops at Blackfriars. Cake decorating is hugely rewarding and is a skill that can transform any celebratory event with a fantastic cake that can be admired by all the guests, giving a real sense of occasion. I’m really excited to be sharing my knowledge and skills with customers.”
Blackfriars was voted the gold winner of the ‘Taste of England’ in the North East Tourism Awards and North East Restaurant of the Year by the Licensed Trade Awards. It runs more than 150 workshop courses a year.
