Blackfriars Sunday Night Burns Night

Fans of famous Scottish poet Robert Burns are being invited to celebrate his work at a special annual dinner in historic surroundings at the heart of Newcastle city centre. Blackfriars Restaurant and Banquet Hall, which dates back to 1239, is hosting Burns’ Night on Sunday, January 24. The date has been set in response to popular demand, as the restaurant’s original event, to be held on Friday, January 22, sold out in record time. At Blackfriars’ Sunday Burns’ Night, guests will be treated to traditional Cock-a-Leekie soup to start, followed by Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, before indulging in Scottish Cranachan for dessert. Each course will include a dram from whisky expert Eddie Ludlow of The Whisky Lounge. Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars, said: “Our Burns’ Night is always a hugely popular affair and we look forward to it every January. This year, our Friday date sold out quicker than ever, so we decided to introduce a Sunday Burns’ Night for those who may otherwise have missed out on what has become a fantastic annual tradition for us. Now, more guests than ever will have the opportunity to enjoy a real ‘earthy’ Burns’ Dinner and treat their taste-buds to the culinary delights of Scottish inspired cuisine and whisky. “We’re lucky to have a very beautiful, dramatic setting at Blackfriars, which lends itself very well to the theatrical nature of presenting the haggis, reciting Burns’ poetry, and hearing the speeches and traditional music.
