Banging Bagels at the New MRKT Coffee Shop

Newcastle's newest coffee shop has now officially opened – with bagels, Block and Bottle bacon and even a Banging Bhaji.
MRKT, at Pilgrim Street, is the latest addition to the Malhotra Group plc’s portfolio of hospitality venues.
And, in a celebration of North East food expertise, the company – one of the region’s leading leisure operators – has collaborated with new kid on the block, Dot Bagels, to showcase rising stars in the food sector.
The menu comprises five, filled bagels, which can be taken away and are also served in the venue’s adjacent The Market Lane.
These include the Cali Club, made with shredded chicken mayo, smashed avocado, sliced boiled egg and bacon sourced from free range butcher Block and Bottle, at Heaton, which recently featured on tv’s The Hairy Bikers Go North.
All the bagels feature locally grown lettuce and heritage tomatoes while the Posh Ploughman’s also contains a selection of cheese, apple, mayo and Branston Pickle.
For vegans, the Banging Bhaji comprises vegan raita, red onion rings, vegan onion bhaji, poppadom and mango chutney and there are also two toasted bagels to choose from.
The Ultimate Three Cheese contains mozzarella, mature Cheddar and Red Leicester, sliced tomatoes and Dot Bagels’ signature Dot sauce, while the Market’s Monsieur features double golden Cheddar cheese, crispy pancetta and béchamel sauce.
Along with a wide choice of coffees and teas, the hot drink menu includes a coconut latte and white chocolate latte, while cakes and pastries are provided by Hexham-based The Pudding Parlour.
Bagels cost from £6 and MRKT is open from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 4pm.
