Alpine Pop-up Bar and Village announced for Grey Street this winter

Following hot on the heels of the announcements surrounding the Christmas Markets in Newcastle and the return of Laser Light City for New Year, a new ‘pop-up Alpine village’ delivered by a partnership between two local operators has been announced for the city, adding to the Festive experience and located on Grey Street, operating between 19th November and 2nd January 2023.
Immediately after the Christmas light switch on Tuesday 15th November, the teams will arrive for a swift construction process and ‘Moosenwirt’ will appear on Grey Street, near the iconic Monument, with an entrance located near the ‘END Clothing’ store and the site continuing down the street until the corner of Lloyds Bank at Market Street.
Moosenwirt, is said to be an “Alpine bar and village’ which features a fully heated yurt which was handmade in Hexham, a large 12m log-wood bar with 8 alternative draught options together with mulled wine and cider; sheltered ‘cosy’ seating areas which include the much-loved fire pits but also a stunning luxury igloo dome (constructed in Burnopfield) which are available to book for private groups. The whole area is set to be warmly lit with festoon and fairy lights, with comfy seating areas with live acoustic music by local artists in the afternoon into the late evening.
This project sees a fresh impetus for Christmas in the city, with a clear focus on working with as many city centre businesses as possible for festive opportunities in the city as well as organisers instructing as many regional tradesmen in the project build.
The opportunity to deliver the Christmas bar was subject to a tender process, with a decision being made by a panel made up of prominent businesses from several sectors across the city. The partnership of Boutique Events Hire and Two Tribes was chosen from the submissions, with the latter renowned for their events at Times Square such as Central Park, Oktoberfest, Paddy Fest or the Fanzone. Boutique Events and owner Nigel Holliday have a similar wealth of experience with previous work including their fantastic pop-up festive creations at Central Station and on Pilgrim Street several years ago as well as being the co-founder of the hugely popular Psychopath Halloween scream park and Family Freightfest.
Co-organiser and local event organiser, Mike Hesketh (Two Tribes Ltd) excitedly states that “we can’t wait to open our Winter concept on one of the most beautiful streets in the country! Having worked, owned businesses, and organised events in the city for two decades, to be given a chance at delivering a quality space in the heart of the city is an honour and a privilege, and we can’t wait to get started and for everyone to meet at the Moose!”
Nigel Holliday (Boutique Event Hire) says “It’s a great social attraction for the city over the festive period and not only for the adult shoppers, locals and tourists to come have a drink and soak in the Christmas spirit but also for all the family to enjoy the space, with some great events over the weeks we’re here.”
‘Moosenwirt, Alpine Bar and Village’ is set to open on Grey Street on Saturday 19th November alongside the Christmas Markets, and will be open from 10am until 11pm daily, with local talent playing acoustic festive and sing-along classics. The venue is free entry, walk-ins are always welcome, and no advanced booking is required, although you can book through their website for the luxury igloo domes for private festive drinking experience and events they are set to announce.
