A White Christmas has arrived at intu Eldon Square

It may be too soon to say whether North Easterners will enjoy the romance of a White Christmas, but at intu Eldon Square it will be snowing every day in December! Youngsters visiting the centre with their parents are having great fun posing in the popular Snow Globe, where their images are captured against a joyful Christmas backdrop and amongst a wealth of wintery snowflakes! The festive photo is then available as a stand alone print, or the image can be the focal point of a miniature snow globe, key ring, fridge magnet – all perfect stocking fillers for Christmas. The Snow Globe is in operation throughout the festive period (outside Boots and Clarks) in Chevy Chase, and is proving very popular indeed. Joan Taylor, intu Eldon Square’s Marketing Manager, said: “Christmas is a time for families, and particularly enjoyed by children, and the Christmas spirit is well and truly alive in intu Eldon Square. It’s wonderful to see the joy on children’s faces as they clamber inside the Snow Globe to have their photo taken in a winter wonderland. Another huge family draw in the city centre is the Fenwick Christmas window, whose displays have enraptured families since 1971. This year’s animated Fairy Tale Forest window is another huge success and visitors who came to see the windows 30 or 40 years ago have since brought their children and grandchildren to see the displays, often travelling miles to view its festive themes. Fenwick is the store in intu Eldon Square where Santa takes up residence to chat to children prior to Christmas Eve, and this year Fenwick has developed a Christmas Village in store, transforming a 5,000 square feet area of the floor into a delightful Victorian themed Christmas hamlet. In John Lewis, this year’s hugely popular ‘Bear and the Hare’ TV commercial is the focus of a Bear Cave on the first floor of the store, where children can pause to have their photo taken with cut outs of the cartoon creatures and also sit and be entertained by the Bear and the Hare in action on a large screen, before perhaps popping along to the toy department to check out what might be in their stocking at Christmas! Throughout the month of December the centre is certainly a visual delight with all the sparkles and twinkles of Christmas, and well as the sounds of Carol Singing from school and community choirs and the Salvation Army, uplifting shoppers’ spirits as we prepare for Christmas Day.”
