6 Quick Questions with Zapatista Burrito Bar

As part of a new segment we're introducing, we'll be asking NE1 businesses to answer six quick questions, some of them sensible, some not so much, in a bid to get to the heart of what makes the city tick.

Our first willing participant is Sam, Manager of Zapatista Burrito Bar on Ridley Place, giving us the lowdown on his favourite burrito and much more. Take it away Sam!

- Talk us through your ideal burrito… Which rice? Spicy or normal beans? Filling? Salsa? Cheese or Sour Cream? Any extras?

Lime and coriander rice, spicy black beans, spicy shredded beef, pico de gallo salsa, 1 t-spoon of extra hot zapata salsa, sour cream and a few crushed tortilla chips.

- Sunday dinner burrito, what’s next? Ham and Pease pudding? Fish & chips? If you could put anything in a burrito what would it be?

Definitely fish and chips....Mushy pea salsa???

- You’re allergic to Mexican food for one day, where do you go for lunch in town?

Fat Hippo or Coop chicken house

-  You’ve got a day free in Newcastle to amuse yourself, what do you do?

I would probably have a wander around the Grainger market for a coffee at Pumphreys and a bite to eat at Nan Bei and then catch a film at the Tyneside cinema. If I was with friends I would definitely head along to Lane 7 and then down to the Ouseburn for some drinks at the Free trade and the Tyne Bar

- What’s the worst attempt you’ve ever seen at the Wall of Fame / Shame?

My own!!! It took me 20 minutes to finish it, absolute failure!

-  Who’s the most famous person who has ever visited the restaurant?

Probably Example or maybe Dara O’Briain

And there you have it! A little bit more about Sam, and next time you visit Zapatista you can even try his ideal and see how it matches with your own! Thanks for being a good sport Sam!
