ITS BACK AND ITS BIGGER THAN EVER NE1S QUAYSIDE SEASIDE RETURNS

Its the unofficial start of summer in Newcastle when NE1 unfolds some of its 100 deckchairs on the white sands of NE1s Quayside Seaside. Thursday 30 May sees the welcome return of what has become an annual summertime feature of Newcastles Quayside NE1s Quayside Seaside returns for its 3rd year, equipped with deckchairs, volleyball court, buckets and spades and the instantly recognisable palm trees. NE1s Quayside Seaside has taken up its usual residence on the Quayside, adjacent to the Pitcher and Piano between the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge, nestled next to the Wesley memorial.   This year, the pop up beach, part of NE1s award winning pocket park programme, is 20% bigger now with added beach, extending to 250 square metres of sand and decking. The beach will remain in situ for four months until 30 September, as in previous years, the beach will play host to a beach volleyball league for local city centre businesses and a new addition to the events programme will be a charity sand castle competition, which will be hosted on the beach by Children North East on Thursday 13 June.  Newcastle College is also interested in running a series of events on the beach, the details of which have yet to be confirmed. All the elements of the beach are re-cyclable, all the decking has been used in previous years, as have the palm trees and deck chairs. Maintenance of the beach is managed by NE1s Street Ranger and Clean Team who monitor all NE1s pocket parks across the city and ensure that the quality is maintained to the highest standard. Commenting on the Quayside Seasides return, Director of Operations at NE1, Adrian Waddell said: NE1s Quayside Seaside has now become one of the recognisable features of the Quayside during the summer. People have taken the beach to their hearts and its arrival signals the unofficial start of summer in Newcastle.  Quayside Seaside is instantly recognisable now with its signature deckchairs, volleyball court and palm trees and it is among the many reasons why the Quayside is such a great destination.  Weve punctuated the Quayside with a number of NE1 pocket parks that provide interesting stopping off points while enjoying a stroll along the citys famous Quayside. NE1S Suggested Summertime Walk one mile (there and back) Start at NE1s first ever pocket park at 57 Quayside, walk along the Quayside to NE1s outdoor Gym next to the Pitcher and Piano spend 15 minutes exercising on the outdoor equipment before taking a well-earned rest on one of the deckchairs on NE1s Quayside Seaside. Then take a leisurely stroll along the Quayside passing four of the Tynes iconic bridges Gateshead Millennium, Tyne, Swing Bridge, High Level to the Copthorne Hotel grab a coffee at the hotel, before strolling back. The walk is approximately one mile.
