Welcome in the Year of the Horse with the incredible Lunar New Year celebrations in Newcastle city centre!
Join in the fun on Sunday 22nd February, starting at Greys Monument at 10:45am with a special eye-dotting ceremony Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu Club’s brand-new dragon. Then, at 11:30am, the parade begins and heads down Blackett Street and Gallowgate, before passing through the iconic Chinese Arch and making its way through Stowell Street.
Meanwhile, from 11:15am at the Arch, you'll be able to watch a performances including Tai Chi demos, fan dancing and a traditional guzheng instrument recital.
Meanwhile in Bath Lane, you'll be able to explore a treasure trove of food vendors and stalls from 10:30am - plus there'll be fairground rides and an arts and crafts tent for the kids too.
Fantastic fun for the whole family, these celebrations are not to be missed!
Timetable:
10:30am - 4:30pm: Market stalls, food vendors and arts and craft ten open at Bath Lane
11:15am: Traditional Chinese dance performances, Tai Chi demonstrations, VIP gathering and welcome at the Chinese Arch
10:45am: Dragon eye-dotting ceremony at Grey's Monument
11:30am: Chinese Lunar New Year parade leaves Grey's Monument
12:15pm -12:30pm: Chinese Lunar New Year arrives at the Chinese Arch
