Newcastle Pride 2018: NE1
Newcastle Pride brings its colour, music and fun back to NE1 from 20th to 22nd July 2018.
Saturday 21st July 2018 will see the main parade starting at 12 noon from Newcastle Civic Centre then parading down along Northumberland Street and then onto Prides new home, Nuns Moor.
2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Rainbow Flag, created by Gilbert Baker. Newcastle Pride will help celebrate this milestone, the meaning behind the rainbow and the symbol it has become for the LGBTQ+ commmunity, and as a symbol for love.
As well as the Main Stage the "zones" will be open as usual including the Steve Paske health zone, family & youth zone and the ever popular market stalls. Alexandra Burke will be headlining the Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage on July 21 while 90’s favourites S Club will take top billing on Sunday. Joining Burke and S Club across the weekend is West End leading man Gareth Gates, X Factor stars Jack and Joel - Simon Cowell’s wildcard act on last year’s series - and The Voice 2016 favourite, Jordan Gray.
Closing the Pride weekend will be the candlelit vigil to celebrate all that has been gained in the LGBTQ+ struggle and providing a time to remember those around the world for whom life is still difficult by helping us to light a thousand flickering candles at Newcastle Civic Centre. The vigil is a perfect moment of quiet reflection.
More information about the full weekend can be found here. But mark your diaries, as we bring together the region and friends to celebrate.
