Laser Light City: Where to Wine & Dine

Heading out to see Laser Light City on New Year’s Eve? Why not make a night of it with some food and drinks?

Laser Light City 2023

Laser Light City returns to Newcastle this New Year’s Eve with a riot of lights, lasers, pyrotechnics and music that promises to be the city’s best end-of-year bash.

It’s got everything you need to make this New Year your best yet with three Laser Light City shows (at 6pm, 9pm and midnight) and plenty of street entertainment in between. With all that going on, why not make a night of it with some food and drinks too?

We’ve rounded up a selection of nearby restaurants, bars and food-on-the-go options that’ll keep you fed and watered as you take in the end-of-year spectacular.

Drinks

If great beer is your poison, make a pre- or post-Laser Light City stop off at The Broad Chare or the Quayside branch of The Head of Steam. Conveniently located just a short walk from Laser Light City’s prime viewing spot at The Swirle opposite the Baltic, both pubs are brilliant for a quick pint or two and The Broad Chare will be serving its tasty gastro-pub fare until 9:45pm.

For a bar that’s even closer to the action, look no further than Pitcher & Piano. With its prime spot opposite the Baltic and views out over the Tyne, you could nab a table and take in a Laser Light City show from the comfort of the bar’s stylish surrounds without having to brave the elements.

If you’re sticking around to ring in the New Year with Laser Light City’s midnight show, then Urban Garden and The Hooch – open ‘til 12am and 1am, respectively – are great nearby options too.

Restaurants

If you’re planning on having a meal before, after or in between Laser Light City shows, there’s a wealth of Quayside restaurants to choose from. Head to Lui’s for classic Italian food with a modern twist and to Hard Rock Café for casual and tasty American eats, or if hearty steaks are more your thing, then Rio Brazilian Steakhouse and its sister restaurant Tomahawk are always a great choice.

Lots of Quayside restaurants are offering special New Year’s Eve menus on the big night too. At Malmaison, you can dine on three courses and a side for £59 per person or enjoy four courses of modern Asian fare plus a glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne at Victors for £95 a head.

Chart House have an equally tempting New Year’s Eve menu featuring four courses of its Spice Route-inspired cuisine and cava on arrival for £59, while 21’s Christmas menu is available on New Year’s Eve and offers plenty of seasonal dishes with two courses for £38 or three courses for £45.

Grab & Go

If a quick bite to eat and a drink on the go is what you’re after, then you’re in luck. The Quayside branch of Greggs is open ‘til 5pm on New Year’s Eve and perfect for a snack stop off before the first Laser Light City show starts at 6pm.

Just a short shuffle along the street, there’s I Scream For Pizza who’ll be dishing out their delicious pizza slices (or whole pies if you’re feeling really peckish!) and as an extra special treat, Italian restaurant Gusto is offering takeaway pizza and pasta too.

There’ll be vendors in place on the Quayside as well, with both North Shore Coffee Co and Olive Coffee Co serving piping hot cuppas that’ll keep you warm and toasty as you take in Laser Light City shows.
