NEWCASTLE CASTLE
Looming above Newcastle, the castle keep is a unique reminder of our city’s rich history. With a whole host of atmospheric areas to explore, it makes for a fun-filled day out whatever the weather. VICTORIA TUNNEL
The Victoria Tunnel in Ouseburn is one of Newcastle’s hidden historical gems, stretching underground through the city. Attend a guided tour of the spooky old structure and learn about its role in Newcastle’s coal industry, as well as its later use as an air raid shelter. Rumour has it that paranormal fans might even spot a ghost or two! After your tour, head to one of Ouseburn’s cosy pubs for a bite to eat and a stiff drink! £6
TYNESIDE CINEMA
We all know that Tyneside Cinema is the place to be for geordies young and old, a trendy, modern spot in the middle of the city. But the building itself is also a key piece of the toon’s history, and a tour round will show you its fabulous 1930s architecture and even old newsreels, giving you a taste of the cinema experience of yesteryear. DISCOVERY MUSEUM
A trip to the Discovery Museum is an unbeatable way to learn all about Newcastle’s scientific, technological and maritime history. From the fascinating Newcastle Story installation, which traces the city’s history from Roman times, to exhibitions all about working and military life in the city, there’s just so much to see and learn.
