Budding masterminds looking for a challenge are well catered for in Newcastle, as the city is host to a plethora of weekly pub quizzes.
Whether you’re showing off your superior intellect with a group of friends, or just fancy a different kind of night out, there’s something for everyone and some pretty great prizes to be nabbed into the bargain! So, conjure up your best team name, grab your pencil, and let’s go!
The Bodega, Westgate Road
The Bodega’s pub quiz has become renowned for its prizes, but perhaps not quite in the way you’d expect. Their infamous wooden spoon is awarded to the team that comes second last (so there’s no being rubbish on purpose!). It’s a pound per person to enter and the fun kicks off every Thursday from 8:30pm. The winner takes the whole pot of cash and there are prizes for teams placing second and third too - plus plenty of real ales and craft beers on tap to keep you quenched throughout.

The Stand, High Bridge
Expect tough questions and big laughs with The Stand’s monthly pub quiz, taking place from 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of every month. Hosted by hilarious local comedian Matt Reed, it’s probably the funniest pub quiz you’ll ever take part in and tickets only cost £2.50!

Mosaic Tap, Pink Lane
If quizzing while sipping on some of the best craft beers in the Toon is your kind of heaven, you won’t find a better haunt than Mosaic Tap. Their pub quiz runs every Wednesday from 8pm and the winning team gets a free round of drinks from their well-stocked bar. Entry costs £1 per person and with a range of rounds – from music and film to current affairs – there’s something for all kinds of quizzers.

The Black Swan @ Newcastle Arts Centre, Westgate Road
Join host Danny “Eyeballs” Gaffney at The Black Swan every Wednesday from 8pm for four rounds of trivia – general knowledge, film and TV, music, wildcard round – and bonus challenges to flex your mind flaps even further! Teams of up to six members can take part and entry costs £1 per person, with the winning team taking on 'The Wheel of Plenty' and the chance to win some fun prizes…and perhaps even the jackpot!

The Trent House, Leazes Lane
The much-loved Trent House's pub quiz kicks off at 8pm every Sunday and promises a "whole lot of fun" with "prizes to be won" for teams of up to six people. Costing just £1 per person to enter, there's eight rounds of quizzing with a bar tab and bonus prizes up for grabs - plus cheap pints all night!

The Holy Hobo, Jesmond Three Sixty
If you’re looking for something a bit wilder, The Holy Hobo’s Big Fact Hunt promises a quiz with a difference every Wednesday from 8pm. This quiz is all about interactivity and depending on the whims of the quizmaster, rounds can include anything from showing off your dance moves to chowing down on a ghost chilli pepper - alongside all the usual trivia, of course. The rewards are pretty great too, with drink prizes and a big wad of cash at stake for winning quizzers. Entry costs just £1 and big groups can get a free pizza or nachos too!

One of the longest running quizzes in the city, The Forth’s popular quiz takes place every Monday at 8pm. Hosted by hilarious quizmaster Christian Steel, it's £2 per person to enter with bar tabs, beer and brewery merch up for grabs. While you’re quizzing, keep your thirst quenched with their fantastic range of international and craft beers and chow down on tasty pub grub served 'til late.

BBC Radio Newcastle presenter Matt Bailey takes the reins at St. James’ STACK every Monday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for its weekly trivia quiz. Entry costs £5 per team and with cash prizes up for grabs, we’d recommend assembling all your clever clogs pals!
