Explore Collingwood Street With Us

Last updated:

Stretching a little over 125 yards, Newcastle’s Collingwood Street might be small, but it certainly packs a lot into its location. Originally built in the early 1800s as a banking and hotel area, it’s been transformed over the years into a busy hub for food and nightlife, while retaining its grand Grade II listed frontages. Collingwood Street is always in flux so here’s a selection of things it has to offer now and in the not-too-distant-future.

Bars

The elegant surroundings of The Continental impress from the moment you walk inside. The opulently decorated bar, with its original 1900s features and fine detailing, really sets the tone for a classy drinking experience. Each original cocktail creation or classic mix with a twist has the perfect balance of fine quality ingredients you’d expect from such knowledgeable bartenders.

Revolution is one of the city’s best-known cocktail bars, with a huge selection of creative cocktails and unrivalled party vibes. The bar is in the heart of the city, housed in an opulent former bank complete with original 30ft ceilings, marble pillars and classic wood features. Revolution has really made a big impression on the Newcastle nightlife scene with a great reputation for fantastic music, a great atmosphere and their renowned cocktail masterclasses.

Collingwood Street is also home to a cluster of four bars that share an owner but have their own distinct character. The chic hideout of ChachaBuchi offers glamour and sophistication with its decadent interior design, including a glowing golden staircase - the perfect backdrop for this grown-up playground. Howlers is unapologetically party-central and boasts the only ball pit bar around! There’s cocktails and karaoke, and corporate nights out and stag and hen parties are welcome here. Inspired by the warm summer glow of the Mediterranean, Verano is a tequila and cocktail bar, serving up a carnival of flavours to tantalise the taste buds. Throw in live DJs and entertainers and this party keeps going like the best holiday you’ve ever had. La Fee, meanwhile, delves back in time into a world of absinthe fountains and daring drinks - it's a place of abandonment and fantasy that's raucous and always fun.

Another Art Deco inspired bar with an exciting new cocktail menu and an impressive and Instagrammable décor is Bohemia - a perfect place for celebrating a birthday or if you just fancy being a bit extra. City breakers and weekend party goers can also experience some Boho Brunchin' during the day.

Food

How do you like your chicken cooked? Barbecue, British, American or grilled? All styles of cooking are offered at this restaurant dedicated to perfect chicken. Terrific food bursting with flavour and with a relaxed industrial chic vibe make COOP Chicken House a welcoming place to experience some of the finest, most succulent flavours with tables full-to-bursting with wood-fired chicken, charred corn, sweet potato fries and delicious, crunchy homemade slaw.

With its green Victorian exterior and vintage interior pieces, Camera Shop was originally, well, a camera shop back in 1907. It has long since been refurbished and has been proudly independent since 2008. The name remains, some décor does too, and this much-loved spot has been serving up breakfast, coffee and lunch to citygoers for 15 years. They offer fresh ingredients, worldwide flavours and an uncompromising great taste.

Located at 3 Collingwood Street, Subway is a name we all know and love. You know the score: choose your sub, salad or wrap and fill it with everything that you love. Easy-peasy. Ideal for lunch on the go or to eat in and absorb the amazing architecture of Collingwood Street.
