Everything You Need to Know About: Fenwick Christmas Window

Fenwick’s famous Christmas Window is back this November

Last updated:

There are certain things that sum up the festive season in Newcastle: the Christmas market, the ice-skating rink at Life Science Centre and – of course – Fenwick Christmas Window.

With this year’s theme recently revealed, we’ve gathered up all the info you need to know about this Yuletide must-do.

What is the Fenwick Christmas Window?

If you know, you know! But if you don’t, it’s a festive display that Newcastle department store Fenwick installs in its Northumberland Street-facing window every year in the run up to Christmas.

It’s been happening since 1971 with a different theme each year and is a festive tradition here in Newcastle, drawing huge crowds every Christmas.

Where is the Fenwick Christmas Window?

It’s located in the long window display inside Fenwick at the bottom end of Northumberland Street.

When was the big reveal?

The big reveal happened at 6:30pm on Sunday 3rd November, but don’t worry if you missed it. You can catch a live stream of the big moment via Fenwick’s YouTube channel and, of course, it’ll be in place throughout the festive season too.

What is this year's theme?

The theme for 2025 is Charles Dickens' festive classic A Christmas Carol and brought to life by author and illustrator Chris Riddell who also created last year's window theme, The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Each window leads visitors through the story, from Ebeneezer Scrooge’s encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet to come to its wonderfully happy ending, and is accompanied by a bespoke score created by the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

How long will Fenwick Christmas Window be in place for?

The display will be in place on Northumberland Street until early January 2026 – so plenty of time to see it!

It wouldn’t be festive season in Newcastle without Fenwick Christmas Window and we're loving this year's interpretation of one of the best festive tales of all times - so make sure to have a gander while you're out doing your Christmas shopping!
