Where to Find the Best Sandwich Shops in Newcastle

Our top picks of the best sandwich shops in Newcastle.

Last updated:

With National Sandwich Day (who knew?) arriving on 3rd November, we thought we’d embark on a fantastically foodie tour around the Toon, stopping at some of Newcastle’s finest sarnie shops!

So whether you’re after a sit-down and a stottie or a speedy toastie to take away, these Newcastle sandwich shops are some of the best of the best.

Camera Shop, Collingwood Street

Since 2008, lunchtime diners have been snapping up proper sarnies at Camera Shop on Collingwood Street! This former camera shop dates back to 1907, and has been repurposed into a cosy café full of character, retaining plenty of its original features. Don’t be surprised to find a queue out the door here, their breakfast buns (served with spicy harissa tomatoes!) and tuna with kimchi toasties are the stuff of legend.

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

Indie bistro, coffee and brunch house Olive Kitchen has some gorgeous brunch options for savoury and sweet-tooths alike, but it’s their mouth-watering baguette menu we’re highlighting today! From chimichurri steak (garlic butter steak strips topped with caramelised onions, rocket and finished with chimichurri) to classic chicken Caesar, each dish is served with a small salad - but we wouldn’t blame you for grabbing some mozzarella dippers on the side!

Fork Café Bar, One Trinity Gardens

Meanwhile the lovely folk over at Fork Café Bar have perfected their focaccia recipe to offer an impressive range of lunchtime specials. Our recommendations? The Tuscan (Italian ham, burrata, rocket and balsamic glaze) is understandably a Fork favourite, but The Verde (avocado, tomato, mozzarella, mixed leaves and balsamic glaze) feels like a great pick-me-up too.

Breadwin Breadwin

Breadwin, Pilgrim Street

Having just been named Sandwich Shop of the Year in the My Local Awards North East 2026, Breadwin definitely know a thing or two about a great sarnie! Their ‘go big or go home’ mentality means no rumbling stomachs after one of these bad boys, with imaginative flavours like dynamite prawn and traditional tastes like coronation chicken offering something for every sandwich seeker.

Frankie & Tony’s Sandwich Bar, Ridely Place & Dean Street

Frankie & Tony’s Sandwich Bar has been a veritable Newcastle institution for over twenty years, so unless you’ve been living under a literal rock, they should definitely be on your radar. Whatever weird and wonderful sandwich creation you’ve been imagining, these guys have the deli counter to bring it to life – but there’s plenty of ready-made options on the chalkboard too.

Cubanos, Grainger Market

If you fancy trying something a little different, then Cubanos is the place to go. These Grainger Market maestros serve Cuban-inspired street food including burritos and empanadas, but we’re focusing on their pressed sandwiches today. Their take on the Cuban classic offers a range of fillings, from slow cooked beef to shredded chipotle chicken. Delicious!

Davey's Davey's

Davey’s, Market Street

Self-described as “the home of damn good food”, Davey’s on Market Street is on a mission to make breakfast time less boring with an insane menu that you’ll never get bored of! Served daily between 9am and 11:45am, their morning menu offers signature breakfast sandwiches that are positively packed with all kinds of deliciousness. If you try only one, make sure it's the Fat Frankie - a butter toasted brioche bun filled with a fluffy egg patty, double sausage patty, American cheese, crispy bacon bits, hot chilli jam and bacon butter sauce and served with a side of house seasoned waffle fries. What a feast!

Sorcerer Coffee, Forth Street

Sorcerer Coffee are fighting the good fight against sad sarnies with a stacked menu from their HQ on Forth Street. Their meatball marinara for example, is inspired by an old family recipe and uses pork, beef and fennel meatballs braised in fresh, tomato marinara sauce with mozzarella, aged parmesan and basil pangrattato. BRB, we’ve made ourselves hungry writing this, we’re off to grab one now.

Mason & Rye, Fenwick

Handily located inside Fenwick Food Hall, Mason & Rye is on-hand to help hungry shoppers with sandwiches, wraps, baguettes and flatbreads. And if you’re on a health kick, you can even add a salad from their selection for just a couple quid more! We’ll take a grilled chicken shawarma ciabatta with a panzanella, heritage tomatoes, mozzarella and basil salad, if you’re ordering.

Olive & Bean Olive & Bean

Olive & Bean, Clayton Street

Clayton Street café Olive & Bean needs no introduction. This lovely lot has been kicking about Toon since first opening their doors in 2008, so you’ve no excuse if you’ve not visited yet! What’s more, their mega lunch menu offers loads for hungry diners like toasted wraps and sourdough open sandwiches – but if you’re struggling to choose, their soup and toastie deal is always a great idea!

Tyneside Bar Café, Pilgrim Street

You’ll probably have visited Tyneside before to catch the latest blockbuster or indie Oscars-favourite, but did you know that they have their very own bar café on-site too? As well as offering loads of stotties and sandos, there’s some suitably themed options for film fanatics like The Dogfather hot dog, and Royale With Cheese… A Pulp Fiction callback, for the uninitiated.

Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteak, STACK Newcastle

And last, but by no means least, we’re heading over to Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteak in STACK Newcastle. Their OG sarnie includes shaved ribeye, caramelised onions, provolone cheese, sauce, crispy onions and chives – but we’ve got our eyes on the spicy alternative, which adds jalapenos, spicy cheese and chilli flakes on-top of all the other good stuff.

With twelve superb sandwich shops to pick from, you’ll be spoilt for choice this National Sandwich Day! Huh, maybe we should campaign to make it a fortnight instead…
