The Best Places to Watch NUFC Matches in Newcastle
Catch all the Toon Army match action at these fantastic city centre pubs and bars

Not lucky enough to be a Newcastle United season ticket holder? Fear not, because there are tonnes of great places in the Toon to watch NUFC matches.
From old school pubs to modern bars, here’s the best places to catch all the NUFC matchday action in Newcastle. Howay the lads!
Shearer’s Bar, Strawberry Place
You can’t get much closer to the action (at least during home games) than St. James’ Park’s resident sports bar! There’s always an excellent atmosphere at Shearer’s Bar whether the lads are playing home or away and with over 50 large screens dotted throughout, you won’t miss a thing.

St James’ Stack, Strawberry Place
If you’re looking for another venue just a stone’s throw away from NUFC’s home, then St. James’ STACK is just the ticket. All televised Newcastle United matches are shown on their screens and with so much food to try from its resident street food traders, you could be eating like royalty throughout the match!
The Old George Inn, Old George Yard
Fancy cheering on the mighty Magpies in Newcastle’s oldest pub? Then look no further than The Old George Inn. There’s plenty of great drinks and pub food to keep you fuelled throughout and you can book seats for each match to secure a prime spot – but on warmer days, why not catch the action on the outdoor screens in their buzzing courtyard?

The Strawberry, Strawberry Place
Another great matchday destination nestled in the shadow of St. James’ Park is – of course – The Strawberry. It’s one of the city’s oldest and most-loved pubs and the preferred spot for NUFC fans come matchday. It’s cosy and constantly busy though, so make sure you get there early if you want to get in!
The Centurion, Neville Street
Travelling in by Metro to watch the match? You don’t get more convenient than The Centurion, situated right inside Central Station. It’s a stunning space and always crammed with fans when NUFC are playing and there’s even the opportunity to hire one of its two fancy lounges – each equipped with 84” 4k screens – for the ultimate matchday experience.

The WonderBar, The Gate
With its lively atmosphere and some of the biggest TV screens in the Toon, it’s no surprise that The WonderBar is always heaving on matchdays. Better yet, during NUFC home matches, DJ Mad Mick is always on hand for pre-match warm-ups and post-match celebrations too.
The Magpie, Percy Street
With a name like The Magpie, Newcastle United fans are guaranteed a warm welcome at this Percy Street favourite. Boasting a friendly Geordie atmosphere and plenty of screens viewable from everywhere in the bar, it’s a top spot on matchdays. Plus, every home game, two lucky guests can win NUFC tickets with their special Magpie Matchday giveaway.

The Canny Lad, Newgate Street
A relative newcomer to Newcastle’s pub scene, The Canny Lad opened its doors in late 2024. The Irish-style tavern shows lots of live sports – Newcastle United matches included – and serves up plenty of good craic too. They’ve got some great drink deals going on too, so those matchday bevvies shouldn’t hurt your wallet too much!
Akenside Traders, Dean Street
Down to Newcastle’s Quayside now, where Akenside Traders offers good vibes and good beers for NUFC fans. They show all Premier League and Champions League matches on their multiple HD screens and some fantastic pub grub to enjoy as fans cheer on the Toon Army.

Shark Club, Gallowgate
Located just a short walk from NUFC’s home, Shark Club is an ideal spot for watching the match with fellow fans. Catch all the action on their big screen TVs while enjoying a pint or two and some grub from their burger-heavy menu. Fans can now book tables for matchdays and Shark Club offers some fantastic drink packages available by pre-order!
The Exchange, Prudhoe Chare
A hidden gem located off Northumberland Street, The Exchange is perfect when other pubs get too packed. Grab an ice-cold pint and catch all the action while enjoying one of their legendary NUFC burgers served every matchday. It’s a kid-friendly establishment too, so perfect for pint-sized Newcastle fans!

Abajo Bar & Grill, Grey Street
Grey Street hangout Abajo Bar & Grill may be a Newcastle newcomer but thanks to its live sports, tasty food and refreshing pints, it’s fast become a destination for NUFC fans on matchdays. TV screens are dotted throughout, meaning you won’t miss any of the action, and their drink deals are unbeatable – perfect for raising a glass when the Toon Army scores a goal!
As a football mad city, it’s no surprise that Newcastle is home to plenty of pubs and bars ideal for soaking up those electric matchday vibes. So, where will you be heading next time NUFC play?
