As well as being home to National Beer Day and National Cheese Day – two of our favourite food groups! – June has shedloads to offer in Newcastle.

From the return of Newcastle Wine Week, to awesome live music and unforgettable theatre, there’s plenty to explore this month. So, let’s not hang about…

Operation Mincemeat @ Theatre Royal

Travel back in time to the ‘40s this month at the Theatre Royal, with Olivier Award-winning musical Operation Mincemeat! Based on the unbelievable true story of how a stolen corpse, fake love letter and Ian Fleming helped to win the war, the best-reviewed show in West End history has been described as Singin’ in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train, and if that hasn’t sold you on it, we don’t know what will!

Monday 22nd – Saturday 27th June 2026, From £38

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) @ Northern Stage

Also making history more entertaining this June is Northern Stage, where The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) packs all of the Bard’s thirty-seven plays into just one hour and twenty minutes. Think Hamlet performed backwards, Titus Andronicus as a YouTube cooking tutorial, and plenty more hilarity on this wonderfully absurd run through the tragedies, comedies and histories.

Friday 19th – Saturday 20th June 2026, From £14

Richard Ayode: Afterthoughts @ Tyne Theatre & Opera House

In the midst of some self-inflicted financial difficulty (that’s him saying it, not us!) Richard Ayode (The IT Crowd, Last One Laughing) is back on the road this summer, bringing his brand-new show Afterthoughts to Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House. So, if you’ve ever wondered what box you should tick if you actually are a robot, then this is the place to be.

Tuesday 9th June 2026, From £34

Lily Allen @ Utilita Arena

Hot on the heels of her Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection, Lily Allen returns to the Toon this June. This time around, she’ll be taking to the Utilita Arena stage, playing the entirety of her critically-acclaimed album West End Girl in full, and marking the biggest headline tour of her career.

Tuesday 16th June 2026, Prices vary

Dropout Improv @ O2 City Hall

The chronically online amongst us have likely seen a Dropout clip or two on our feeds – but trust us, watching them live will be so much better! With improv games, comedy and plenty of shenanigans, this stop on their 2026 UK tour will feature regulars Jacob Wysocki and Kurt Maloney, as well as plenty of special guests and surprises along the way.

Wednesday 3rd June 2026, Prices vary

Carnival at the Castle Carnival at the Castle

Carnival at the Castle @ Newcastle Castle

Newcastle Castle are proving that there was still plenty of fun to be had 2,000 years ago, with their Carnival at the Castle! Bringing the history of entertainment to life like never before, you’ll learn how people celebrated, laughed and came together through music, games, feasting and festivity. Expect live performances and immersive historical experiences creating an unforgettable atmosphere for all the family to enjoy.

Newcastle Jazz Festival @ Live Theatre

Newcastle Jazz Festival are striking the right chord (see what we did there?) this month, with its seventh edition at Live Theatre. Boasting a busy schedule of the best artists from across the North East and UK jazz scene, there’ll be no shortage of music to enjoy – including Mercury Prize-nominated trumpeter Laura Jurd, and 2017 British Jazz Awards Rising Star winner Rory Ingham.

Friday 26th – Saturday 27th June 2026, From £13

Oasis Supernova @ Digital

Embodying the sound, swagger and story of the Gallagher brothers, Oasis Supernova is set to rock Digital this June. With a talented eleven-piece band of professional musicians, and a stunning 4k visual show to accompany the on-stage action, it promises to be an incredible night out!

Thursday 11th June 2026, From £19

The Music of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight @ Newcastle Cathedral

Don’t Stop! We’ve got one more unmissable event for the month ahead, and it’s The Music of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight at Newcastle Cathedral. Performed by an amazing cast of West End singers and an epic live band, you’ll hear fan favourites and deep cuts performed under magical candlelight. It’s the stuff of Dreams… except it’s very much real!

Newcastle Wine Week @ Newcastle City Centre

And last but by no means least, we’re saying cheers to the return of Newcastle Wine Week in venues across the city centre. Grab a wristband for just £14.99 and uncork exclusive half-price wine offers inside the likes of Hotel Gotham, Hibou Blanc, House of Tides and many, many more!
