Davey’s, Market Street

Davey’s has taken the Toon by storm since opening in the city centre last year, dishing up proper serious burgers from dawn til’ dusk. Kickstart your day with a Fat Frankie breakfast burger (compete with double sausage patty, double American cheese, streaky bacon, fluffy eggs and Italian American creamy tomato sauce), or treat yourself to the Mac & Smash burger post-work (the clue’s in the name here – their signature mac’n’cheese is layered on-top of double smashed beef patty and coated with Howdy’s hot honey and cajun crumb). And we haven’t even mentioned the mouth-watering menu of sides too!

Friez & Burgz, Percy Street

Superior smash burgers made speedy is the name of the game at Friez & Burgz on Percy Street! There’s loads – and we mean loads – to pick from here, as well as plenty of customizable options. There’s even weekly specials to enjoy too, like the peppercorn steak burger and cherry pie milkshake, so there’ll be something different every time you visit. We’re keeping an eye out for the return of their lemon herb chicken Caesar burger…

Burger Drop @ Fayre Play, The Gate

Meanwhile inside The Gate, Fayre Play competitors that’ve worked up a sweat can enjoy a well-deserved break thanks to Burger Drop! Just outside their nostalgic funfair games, you’ll find this lot serving plenty of the good stuff, with elevated classics and some genius new creations. Garlic butter mushroom, anyone?

Fat Hippo, Shakespeare Street

Meat:Stack, Bigg Market

There’s a reason why Meat:Stack always has a queue out the door! One of the standout names in NE1’s vibrant indie scene, the burger pros over on the Bigg Market are one of the region’s biggest names when it comes to knocking out some seriously tasty goods. Smashed, steamed and served up fast, here you can dive into cheeseburgers that arrive bursting at the buns with the likes of baconnaise and griddled jalapenos. They often introduce specials too - take note burger lovers!

Brack Burger, St. James’ STACK & Worswick Chambers STACK

Brack Burger has been steadily winning over North East burger fans with locations in Jesmond, Gosforth and Tynemouth and finally opened a Newcastle city centre location when St. James’ STACK opened its doors in 2024. Their hand-pressed, freshly made patties are hard to beat and they’ve got everything from a classic cheeseburger (‘The O.G’) to more adventurous varieties like the Nashville chicken burger and even a few veggie and vegan-friendly burgers. Don’t forget that their space at Worswick Chambers STACK either!

Five Guys, Northumberland Street

A fan-favourite for Geordies everywhere, Five Guys is another bright burger business providing seriously good grub at the bottom of Northumberland Street. An American fast-food icon, Five Guys’ burgers arrive in the form of two tender patties, two lush slices of American cheese and a choice of 15 free toppings to slap on top of your beefy creation. That means you have more than 250,000 possible combinations to choose from! So change it up or stick to your favourites - regardless of your choice, you’re in for a taste sensation at Five Guys.

Lola Jeans, Market Street

The home of award-winning burgers, Lola Jeans are arguably one of the North’s finest burger bosses and they know how to serve up a storm. Having opened with a bang on Market Street a few years back, Lola Jeans lit up NE1’s foodie scene with their Battle of the Burger prize-winners and they’re utterly incredible. From their ‘Clancy Wiggum’ - topped with smoked streaky bacon, American cheese, red onion jam, baconnaise, Tennessee BBQ and bacon frazzles - to the iconic ‘James P Sullivan’ that’s dripping with mature cheddar, prime rump steak, shoestring onions, steak sauce and pickled onion Monster Munch, Lola Jeans don’t do half-measures and these patty perfections aren’t for the faint of heart. An absolute must visit for burger fans!

Dream Burger, Clayton Street

And last, but by no means least, over on Clayton Street there’s Dream Burger! They offer a dizzying range of beef and chicken burgers from the traditional – smoky BBQ bacon burger, for example – through to the more inventive like the chilli cheese chicken burger. There’s a host of sides, dips, drinks (including mocktails!) and various boxes and offers.
