Glazed & Confused: Where to Get the Best Doughnuts in Newcastle

Indulge in the city’s finest doughy delights at these fantastic doughnut spots

Last updated:

Hurrah! National Doughnut Week is here and thankfully for you, the Toon has some of the best spots when it comes to picking up these delicious delights.

From glazed treats to raspberry jam rings, Newcastle certainly has a hole ‘lotta love for doughnuts – enough to keep your sweet tooth satisfied through National Doughnut Week and beyond!

Krispy Kreme, Eldon Square

You can’t beat Krispy Kreme when it comes to sweet, doughy delights. Renowned across the globe for their iconic selection of sweet treats and their beloved feast boxes, this lovely little kiosk inside Eldon Square is the perfect place to chow down on some seriously tasty stuff. Whether you’re after strawberry sprinkles, cinnamon swirls or original glazed rings, you’ll find it all at this doughnut mecca.

Sweet Dreams Dessert Café, St. Andrew’s Street

Sweet Dreams certainly lives up to its name with a huge menu of sweet treats including – of course – doughnuts. There are nine different doughnut varieties to choose from – including salted caramel, white choc sprinkles and Aero mint – and their Nutella-filled mini doughnuts are perfect for sharing… or not!

Yum Yum, Cross Street

Alongside some seriously tasty smash burgers, Yum Yum also has a line of delicious desserts including – of course – doughnuts. Available in batches of two or four, orin  boxes of eight or twelve, Yum Yum’s doughnuts are all made in-house with flavours like white sauce and rainbow sprinkles or Nutella and strawberry to try.

Kaspa’s, Clayton Street

With sundaes, cakes and crepes galore, retro dessert parlour Kaspa’s is heaven for those with a sweet tooth, but we’re hear to shout about its doughnuts! There’s lots of flavours to try – from cinnamon sugar to chocolate sprinkles – and they do a great line of plant-based cronuts for vegan diners too (we’re crazy about the pistachio cronut!).

M&S Food Hall, Marks & Spencer, Northumberland Street

Doughnut aficionados certainly won’t want to miss out on the “Dunked N’ Loaded” treats dished out by the bakery in M&S Food Hall. Dubbed “the UK’s deepest-filled bakery treats”, they’re doughnut indulgence personified and come in flavours including Lemon (packed with Sicilian lemon curd and topped with lemon icing and freeze-dried raspberries) and Double Chocolate (filled with dark chocolate ganache and finished with milk chocolate icing and curls).

Greggs, Multiple Locations

The doughnuts of champions! It wouldn't be a sweet treat list without mentioning one of the city's most famous exports and Greggs have an incredible 12 stores in Newcastle city centre alone, so you’re never too far away from their pillowy-soft doughnuts. Their glazed ring doughnut is simple but delicious and if the sound of a hand-dipped caramel custard doesn’t get your taste buds going, then there’s definitely something wrong! You simply can’t knock Greggs’ trusty jam doughnuts though – pair with a lovely flat white and you’re on to a winner.

Whether you’re after a classic jam doughnut or something a little more indulgent, you’re bound to find a sweet treat to suit at one of the Newcastle doughnut hotspots above. Happy Doughnut Week!
