18 Must-Try Brunch Spots in Newcastle

Here's where to head for a delicious brunch in the city

Last updated:
Pancakes at The Dispensary

We bet your gran was always telling you breakfast was the most important meal of the day, but that’s because they probably hadn’t heard about brunch yet.

Brunch has always been cool but with the rise of the ‘bottomless brunch’, it’s everywhere again, and Newcastle has some great brunch spots. Here are just a few that you should definitely try out.

Sunday Coffee & Kitchen, Pudding Chare

Focusing on fresh, colourful and tasty ingredients, the vegan-friendly Sunday Coffee & Kitchen has plenty to keep every brunch lover happy! There’s loads of instagrammable acai bowls and pancake stacks across the menu here, as well as a wide range of matcha including strawberry shortcake and banana bread. We’ll take some pesto garlic cream cheese toast and honey sea salt latte, if you’re ordering.

Café Filto, Fenwick, Northumberland Street

Since they first opened up in Sandyford only last year, Café Filto has taken the Toon by storm! They boast two venues inside Fenwick, but we’re focusing on their lower ground floor concession, which hosts an indulgent breakfast/brunch menu served until noon. Their steak and eggs is the stuff of legend, but the Turkish eggs with hash browns sound pretty bangin’ to us. And of course, there’s plenty to wash it down with, including smoothies, matcha, and the usual tea and coffee.

The Dispensary, Heber Street

The Dispensary really has the whole brunch thing nailed. They offer plenty of appealing but more traditional meals like a build-your-own Full English and eggs Benedict, but for many of us brunch equals pancakes and French toast, and that’s where they really come into their own. Their Lotus Biscoff pancake stack is ridiculously tasty and they have a variety of French toast offerings with toppings like strawberry and Nutella or apple and cinnamon crumble. There’s plenty of good coffee and daily specials too, all of which is why we’d definitely recommend booking a table.

Slug & Lettuce, Grainger Street

With dozens of branches across the UK, Slug & Lettuce is well-known as a bar but it’s no slouch when it comes to brunch either. Served 'til 4pm every day, their brunch menu boasts all the classics - American-style pancakes, a full English (with a plant-based option available), avocado on toast – but there are some unusual offerings too like the PB&J brioche sandwich, plus the option to add a choice of extras for just a couple quid more.

EL&N at Fenwick, Fenwick, Northumberland Street

Fenwick favourite EL&N is an absolute must-do for brunch fans, with classic dishes like French toast, croque monsieur and their signature shakshuka served up all day long. With sweet treats like tarts, brownies and cheesecakes served too, it’d be rude not to throw a sweet treat into the mix!

Ham & Eggs at Cafe 21 at Fenwick Ham & Eggs at Cafe 21 at Fenwick

Café 21 at Fenwick, Northumberland Street

This classy restaurant in the heart of Fenwick offers breakfast or brunch from 9am to 11.30am, except Sundays when it starts at 10:30am. With nearly a range of egg options - from eggs Florentine to omelettes and souffles - and "morning pick-me-ups" including Bloody Marys, mimosas and Bellinis, Cafe 21 is a fine place to enjoy brunch.

Olive & Bean, Clayton Street

Olive & Bean keeps things simple – good coffee, good food – but its central location next to Grainger Market makes it a great place to meet friends and start your day well with delicious eats at friendly prices with bagels, topped toasts, breakfast burritos and brunch classics like waffles and eggs Benedict. A range of coffee, tea and smoothies add to the appeal.

Tiny Tiny, Carliol Square

Formerly known as Flat Caps, Tiny Tiny has a well-deserved reputation for excellent coffee (and doubles up as a supplier with sister company Roastsmith Coffee) but that shouldn’t be allowed to overshadow its very fine food options. All their dishes hint at quality and invention and plenty of brunch-friendly options are served like streaky bacon stotties, Turkish eggs and Mexican bean rancheros - all perfect washed down with one of their speciality coffees.

The Alchemist, Eldon Square

Known primarily as a purveyor of elaborate cocktails in a vibrant atmosphere, The Alchemist also offers plenty of good food, and its brunch menu is no exception. The Full Alchemist isn’t for the fainthearted but there are less daunting choices – chicken and waffles, maple bacon pancakes and a breakfast burrito - and there's a cocktail-themed option available on weekends offering a brunch dish and three of their creative cocktails for just £35 per person.

All Bar One, Grey Street

Boasting a prime position on Newcastle's gorgeous Grey Street, All Bar One certainly makes for a scenic spot to enjoy brunch. Choose from dishes like full English breakfasts (with a veggie option available), breakfast quesadilla, French toast and more with two dishes for just £18, every day until 12pm.

Shakshuka at Social Bird Shakshuka at Social Bird

Social Bird, Fenkle Street

Social Bird serves up some of the tastiest chicken in Newcastle but it does a mean brunch too, featuring plenty of its delicious chicken of course! The Dirty Bird (Mac ’n’ cheese, fried chicken fillet, crispy onions, lettuce) is particularly tempting and there's veggie and vegan-friendly options with the likes of shakshuka and sticky bang bang cauliflower.

Super Natural, Grainger Street

If you're after a vegetarian and vegan-friendly brunch, there's no better place to head than Super Natural. The Grainger Street restaurant has been specialising in veggie and vegan food and drink since the 1970s, so you know you're in good hands and their brunch menu is bound to please those of a plant-based persuasion - country brunch skillet or toffee-drizzled Belgian waffles anyone?

Cafe Andaluz, Grey Street

If brunch with a tapas twist gets your taste buds tingling, head to Cafe Andaluz on Grey Street. The Spanish restaurant serves up a mouthwatering range of tapas-style brunch options every day between 10am and 12:00pm with dishes like tortilla espanola (a thick omelette with potato, onion and pinxto salsa) and eggs and chorizo hollandaise - perfect teamed with brunch-friendly cocktails like mimosas and sangria.

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

Since opening their doors for the first time back in 2024, Olive Kitchen has become a firm favourite amongst brunch lovers, and it’s easy to see why! With everything from pancakes and classic breakfasts, to hash browns and eggs benedict to enjoy, plus plenty of coffee options to wash it all down with, their brunch offering is certainly mega.

Moku Moku

Moku, Side

Taking their cues from tropical Hawaii, Moku on Side boasts one of the most unique brunch menus in the city centre, with Asian, Latin American and Portuguese influences. Running from 10am until 3:30pm, there’s plenty to get stuck into, including a loaded hash bowl, traditional avocado toast, and wela cured salmon poke bowl! And that’s not forgetting the range of smoothies and matcha to wash it all down with too…

The Botanist, Monument Mall

The Newcastle branch of The Botanist boasts a gorgeous roof terrace and we can't think of a better place to take brunch when the weather is warmer! Their "Botanista Brunch" menu is available on Fridays and Saturdays between 10am and 2pm and offers any of their brunch dishes and three drinks for £37.50 per person - choose from the likes of breakfast butties crammed with sausage, bacon, mushroom, cheese and fried eggs), banoffee pancake stack, and wash down with a few Bloody Botanist cocktails.

Davey’s, Market Street

With their New York-inspired smash burgers and thick ice cream shakes, it’s fair to say that Davey’s definitely doesn’t mess about when it comes to brunch. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a full stack of honey butter pancakes or stuffed blueberry cheesecake French toast – or perhaps you’d prefer to indulge in a fat Frankie bagel or triple stacked caprese grilled cheese? Either way, a post-brunch nap will absolutely be needed after you’ve had some scran here.

Café Bar Kaltur, High Bridge

The recently opened Café Bar Kaltur on High Bridge transports us all to those gorgeously intimate restaurants and bars dotted all around Spain, offering a full brunch menu from 10am. Their sunny selection of dishes includes everything from sobrasada (Spanish nduja) toast to tortilla de patatas with caramelised onion. And hey, why not even pick up some almond cake while you’re there for later?

And so concludes our round-up of some of the best brunch spots in Newcastle, but remember - there are lots of other great brunch locations in the city and all of them offer a good reason to get up early, even on a Sunday. And, if you fancy making your brunch boozy, then check out some of the best bottomless brunches in Newcastle too!
