Ways To Keep The Kids Entertained at Home This Easter

Last updated:

As the warmer weather closes in and the city begins to open up, there’s still loads of exciting activities for you and the little ones to enjoy this April. While it may not be the bank holiday celebrations we had planned for, we’ve put together a guide to help parents keep little brains ticking, young hearts racing and pearly whites showing while we spend the school holidays at home this year.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP: I'VE GOT THE GOLDEN TICKET!

3 APRIL

Have you got a budding author on your hands? If so, listen up! Our friends at Seven Stories are saving the day once again with fantastic virtual events to keep youngsters thinking during the school holidays. So, what is the I’ve Got the Golden Ticket workshop all about? Collect your ‘golden ticket’ and get ready to design your dream factory - Willy Wonka-style! Do your conveyor belts dispense sparkly kittens? Will your visitors go on a mysterious pirate-themed treasure hunt? Whatever you come up with - the more adventurous the better - learn about how to come up with the best describing words to really let your imagination go! Headed up by Stephanie and Lauren from the Children’s Literature unit at Newcastle University, kids will leave the Zoom workshop full of terrific tips and techniques for story writing.

EASTER EGG CATAPULTS: VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

8 & 15 APRIL

Ready, aim, fire! Our friends at Discovery Museum have a cracker of a workshop going on this April, as they’re welcoming families from across the city to take part in an exhilarating Easter egg catapult extravaganza! The task is simple; we all know that the Easter bunny has lots of eggs to deliver, and so Discovery Museums are challenging your little cherubs to build a catapult to make their job easier! Information on how to get involved and the lowdown on the materials you’ll need are all available via their website.

QUAYSIDE RIDE-OUT

What better way to explore our city than jumping on the saddle and zooming round the city with loved ones all day? Get up sharp, have a hearty breakfast and get those two wheels blown up as this bank holiday weekend is the perfect chance to get out and about, have some fun and feel the wind in your hair on your trusty steed! Start your two wheel excursion down by our stunning Quayside. Down here, you can find wide paths (perfect for those still getting accustomed to the saddle), panoramic river views and a plethora of foodie spots to satisfy your post-ride refreshment needs. Whizz past the Tyne, bypass the city’s seven bridges and simply enjoy being in the great outdoors. It’s cycling bliss!
