Last updated:

The very best of European rugby comes to NE1 this May! Here's how you can get in on all the action...

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW...

Thursday 9th May: The Champions Rugby Village on the Quayside opens from 3pm, through to 11pm on Saturday 11th May.

Friday 10th May: ASM Clermont Auvergne take on La Rochelle in the European Challenge Cup Final at 7.45pm, St James' Park.

Saturday 11th May: Leinster Rugby take on Saracens in the Heineken Champions Cup at 5pm, St James' Park.

Saturday 11th May: The time has come. The European Rugby finals are about to kick off at Newcastle’s St James’ Park this May, and we just can’t wait for the rugby-fuelled antics to unfold!

From 10th - 11th May 2019, our city will play host to European Rugby’s biggest weekend in the sporting calendar, with the Challenge Cup taking place on the Friday night, followed by the Heineken Champions Cup Final held on the Saturday.

It’s an incredibly exciting time for our city and its rugby fans, as the best that European Rugby has to offer arrives in the Toon!

We can expect big names, big moments and big club achievements as ASM Clermont Auvergne take on La Rochelle in the Challenge Cup Final on Friday, with the main event unfolding with a clash between Leinster Rugby and Saracens, going head to head for the Heineken Champions Cup. Who will be lifting the all-important trophies this year?

The live action will unfold at the home of the Magpies, but there’s plenty of excitement
and entertainment to enjoy in and around the city in the run up to, during and after the big games!

A carnival-like atmosphere will spread from St James’ Park, through the city centre and down on to the Quayside, where a Champions Rugby Village will be set up and filled with family-friendly activities, live music, food and drink stalls and a stage with big screen entertainment! Running from underneath the Tyne Bridge through to the Millennium Bridge, you won’t be able to miss this bustling space - the perfect place to get in on the action and enjoy the electrifying atmosphere as European Rugby takes over our city!

The Champions Rugby Village will get underway on the afternoon of Thursday 9th May and will be open to the public between 10am and 11pm on both Friday and Saturday, before a sparkling firework show will bring the weekend to a close on Saturday night.

The rugby-fuelled fun doesn’t stop there! Fans will also be able to enjoy interactive stations throughout the city, at BALTIC Square, Blackett Street, Strawberry Place and St James’ Park Metro car park.

It’s set to be a thrilling weekend of live sport in NE1 - make sure you’re a part of it!
