TYNESIDE HOTEL SUPPORTS NORTHERN PRIDE…..

TYNESIDE hotels are encouraging attendees at one of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities’ biggest events of the year to extend their stay in the region, thanks to a range of exciting offers. Newcastle Pride – taking place at Exhibition Park on July 20 – is expected to attract thousands of people from around the country, taking part in a day-long free celebration. Last year the event attracted more than 23,000 visitors and the indications are that even bigger crowds will turn up this time round. And now organisers have brought a range of the city’s top hotels on board which are offering packages to encourage visitors to stay in the area for longer than the festival. For the second year running the Sandman Signature Hotel – right in the heart of Newcastle- has come on board as a preferred partner, offering a special rate to anyone attending Pride. “The Sandman Signature hotel was involved last year and is delighted to be able to support Pride for the second time,” said Paul Smith, the hotel manager. “We have hosted the launch of Newcastle Pride at the hotel once again this year and we are looking forward to welcoming so many visitors to the city.” Other hotels which have also created a range of special packages for the event include Jurys Inn at Scotswood Road, The Copthorne Hotel and The Thistle Hotel on Neville Street. “Pride gives a huge boost to the economy and this year we’ve partnered up with a number of organisations such as the concert at Durham Cricket Club to encourage attendees to arrive earlier and leave later,” said Peter Darrant, chair of Northern Pride, which stages Newcastle Pride. “We’ve got a fantastic list of performers and we hope that lots of people will come and join the LGBT community for what is always a memorable day.” Headlining this year will be X Factor finalist Amelia Lily along with 80s star Toyah with acts including Steptastic, Katrina of the Waves and Titch, who recently supported Olly Murs on tour. The event will also stage a health zone, women’s zone, a cabaret tent, sports arena, trans zone, dance tent, tea tent and a funfair. Details of the accommodation packages available can be accessed at www.northern-pride.com/accommodation.
