Newcastle's Tyneside Cinema is delighted to announce that the North East’s favourite romantic film as voted for by the public is the timeless World War II love story Casablanca, which will be shown on Saturday 14 February at 15:50.
Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman and directed by Michael Curtiz, the film won the Academy Award for Best Picture when it was originally released in 1942 and consistently appears in critics' lists of the top films of all time.
Everyone who attends the screening of Casablanca on Valentine’s Day will receive complimentary luxury chocolates courtesy of Hotel Chocolat. A selection of special cocktails and a Valentine’s Day menu will also be available from the Tyneside Bar Café.
This is the seventh year Tyneside Cinema has invited audiences to vote for their favourite film for Valentine’s Day, and previous years have seen a diverse range of winners, including Amélie, Once, Before Sunrise, The Notebook and When Harry Met Sally.
Jonny Tull, Cinema Programme Manager for Tyneside Cinema said, “We’re huge fans of Casablanca at Tyneside Cinema and we can’t think of a more perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day than playing it again on the big screen. A huge thanks to everyone who voted and we hope you’ll join us for this very special event – with an extra treat of free chocolates from Hotel Chocolat for everyone who attends, too!”
Tickets for Casablanca are on sale now at the Tyneside Cinema Box Office, by phone on 0845 217 9909 or online from www.tynesidecinema.co.uk.
Film fans looking for something a bit different this Valentine’s Day can enjoy Love Hurts, a season of alternative films about love and lust, including David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, Japanese psychological horror film Audition and David Cronenberg’s controversial thriller Crash.
Audiences can also see the hotly-anticipated adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey at Tyneside Cinema, which opens on general release on Friday 13 February.
