Tyne - Wear Derby Key Messages for Businesses

The below information has been issued by Northumbria Police in advance of the Tyne - Wear Derby.
The key messages for businesses are as follows:
- Sunday, December 21 is expected to be one of the busiest days in Newcastle City Centre with Christmas shoppers, partygoers and the Tyne-Wear derby taking place.
- We have listened to your concerns regarding the potential for disruption to those living, working and / or visiting in the area and we have made some changes to address your concerns.
- Police and partners are working closely to provide the best possible service to businesses in the city as it will be a busier-than-usual experience.
- We are working with our partners to maintain the free-flow of vehicular traffic in and around Newcastle City Centre and the wider area
- Northumbria Police has the experience and resources to facilitate such large scale events, and has done so very successfully in the past.
- The officers working in the city centre on the day have experience of such large events and have been selected because of their experience of working in the city.
- We want to ensure that the day’s activity has minimal impact on you, your staff and your business.
- We are asking workers and business owners to think about their own travel to the city and make plans in advance about how they are going to get to and from work.
- There will be a vibrant atmosphere in the city centres with eager festive shoppers, football fans, and Christmas partygoers and we urge everyone to enjoy this atmosphere and the day as a whole.
