Two Winter Princesses take to the Ice

What little girl doesn’t want to be treated like a princess? For two local girls this dream became reality at Life Science Centre today (8 November), when they got the chance to become Winter Princesses and help celebrate the return of Life’s outdoor ice rink. Complete with dresses fit for royalty, they grabbed their skates and headed out onto the ice for a magical skating experience - and the rink did not disappoint. Posing happily for pictures, the girls were keen to show off their costumes (and their skating skills). Hannah Binns, aged 7 from Hebburn and one of the lucky girls involved, was thrilled with her time on the rink, saying: ‘I’ve had a brilliant time, it was amazing to skate around the rink, we had lots of fun, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be and I want to come back and have another go.” As Newcastle’s only outdoor ice rink, Skating@Life has become a well-established part of the city’s festive traditions, and is enjoyed by over 80,000 visitors every year. Situated in Times Square just outside the Science Centre building, the rink will be open until 22 February 2015. Life offers a variety of skating packages for groups and birthday parties, and keen skaters can get 10 skating sessions on the rink for the price of 5. In addition, visitors can turn their skating trip into a full day out by grabbing a ticket to the Science Centre. From November 8, Life’s latest 4D Motion Ride* Night at the Toy Store shows exactly what the toys get up to when the customers go home for the evening, and BODY WORLDS Vital, the exhibition of real human bodies, has been extended until 4 January 2015 due to popular demand. Tickets also include access to shows in Life’s planetarium – the most popular in Britain - and the Science Theatre, the Young Explorers’ Zone; an area especially for under 7s, and the hands-on Curiosity Zone, designed to unleash everyone’s inner scientist. The ice rink will be open every day (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) until 22 February 2015. Night at the Toy Store will run until 4 January 2015. Prices to skate start at £8.50 per adult and £6.50 per child. Prices to visit the Science Centre are £12 per adult and £7.50 per child.
