The Russian State Opera returns to The Tyne Theatre and Opera House

The highly acclaimed Russian State Opera returns to the Tyne Theatre and Opera House on Sunday 27th February with their exquisite production of Madama Butterfly.

After its successful season last year, Russian State Opera is back to delight you with an exquisite production of Madama Butterfly boasting beautiful sets and costumes which form the perfect setting for this emotional and heartbreaking story. Featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a large live Orchestra with over 30 musicians, this is a show you certainly won't want to miss.

Almost exactly 24 months ago, the Russian State Opera was presenting the premiere of Aida across the country. Shortly after starting the tour at the end of February 2020, the opera tour came to an abrupt end with devastating effects for the theatres, producers, and artists. Fast forward to today, and all three parties are still recovering from the results of the corona pandemic, as especially the arts sector was affected the most.

Alexej Ignatow, producer of Russian State Opera, said “It is of no surprise that we were hit hard during the last two years. Together with the local theatres, we now hope that the worst is behind us and we slowly can return to normality. We are excited to be back in the theatre and also hope that the local audiences will come in numbers to support us and this amazing classical art. Maybe, who knows, but the pandemic will serve as a restart to the opera genre.”
