The Core plans For Exciting Science Central Events Programme

A PACKED calendar of events, talks, pop-ups, socials and exhibitions is being planned for The Core - Science Central’s landmark building which opens this November.
Creative Space Management, The Core’s management company, has appointed Lisa Tolan as Centre Manager to run the office space designed for science, technology and knowledge-based businesses.
Lisa also opened the multi award-winning Toffee Factory, which was supported through the North East of England ERDF Competitiveness programme 2007 – 13, in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley, and has a track record of developing spaces that serve design and creative communities.
This has included making Toffee Factory a key venue for a number of city festivals, including The Late Shows, ¡VAMOS! Festival, EAT! Festival and Ouseburn Open Studios.
Lisa said: “The Core is a building specifically designed to provide accommodation for small and medium sized businesses. At The Core, we will be working with a range of partners including academics, community groups and leading international companies to showcase some of the themes that are important to Science Central.
This will be done through an ambitious programme of events and demonstrations that will be of interest not just to the business community, but to everyone in the region.
Themes include smart, sustainable cities, and digital technology relating to better future management of energy, transport and infrastructure in cities such as Newcastle.
Up to 150 people can be seated for screenings, talks and interactive work at The Core, and there is a large landscaped square to the front of the building that enables us to spill events out into the wider Science Central site.”
The Core is part-financed by: £5.6m from the North East of England ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13, £6m from the Regional Growth Fund, and Newcastle City Council.
