The Botanist Chuf-fed To Support Region's Charity

NEWCASTLE’S newcomer bar The Botanist has chosen to partner with the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) throughout 2015, after raising £1,687 for the charity in its opening month. One pound from each reservation in December went towards the heart unit based at the Freeman Hospital and The Botanist has now pledged to donate 25p from every children’s meal this year. The Botanist general manager Andrew Shiel-Redfern said: “Many North East families owe so much to the incredible CHUF team. A cause close to our hearts in Newcastle, this worthwhile charity deserves all the help we can give and we are proud to partner with them. “It was a huge success to raise just short of £1,700 for CHUF in our first few weeks of opening so we’re excited to see what we can achieve over the course of the whole year. Chris Gray, head of fundraising at CHUF said: “We were overwhelmed when we were presented with the cheque at the beginning of the year following December’s initiative by Andy and the whole team at The Botanist. “This generous pledge for the year ahead will allow the Children's Heart Unit at The Freeman to continue to provide world-class service to the critically ill babies, children and young people who enter our care.” 35-year-old Andrew is also planning to top up the funds raised from the children’s menu meals with some personal activities. Andrew said: “I’ve set myself a few sporting challenges this year which I’m hoping to generate further support for CHUF so it’ll feel extra special when we hand over the cheque at the end of the year.” Bar and restaurant venue, The Botanist, opened its doors in the city centre’s Monument Mall in December 2014.
