Sunshine Run Returns to Newcastle for its 23rd Year

Sunshine Run returns to Newcastle for its 23rd year with Stagecoach backing as charity run continues to change the lives of local children with disabilities.

The 23rd Sunshine Run returns to the Newcastle Quayside this summer, sponsored by Stagecoach for the 6th consecutive year, as organisers aim to recruit 500 runners and raise £15,000+ to provide specialist equipment for North East children with disabilities.

The flat, fast 5km evening event brings together local runners, community clubs and competitive corporate teams to get involved and make a difference to local children’s lives.

Steve Walker, Managing Director of Stagecoach North East, said: "We’re incredibly proud to be supporting the Sunshine Run for the sixth year running. At Stagecoach, we’re committed to connecting people and communities, and there is no better way to do that than by helping The Sunshine Fund provide life-changing equipment for local children. It’s always an inspiring evening on the Quayside, and we can’t wait to see everyone at the start line."

Event highlights

  • Edition: 23rd Sunshine Run – Wednesday 17th June 2026 – From 6pm
  • Location: Newcastle Quayside
  • Distance: 5km Run
  • Sponsor: Stagecoach

A new addition to this year’s event is the introduction of a ‘Sunshine Mile’ during the day.  The ‘Sunshine Mile’ is an inclusive and interactive walk designed for school groups where children can get involved in the excitement of the Sunshine Run event, while enjoying a 1-mile self-guided walk along the Quayside and over two of the Tyne’s bridges.

“Bringing the Sunshine Run back to the Quayside again this year shows how much the people in and around the city love the event, we know that this is more than just a race, it’s about the businesses, running clubs and the city’s people coming together to change lives,” said David Wilson, Head of Charity.

“With Stagecoach’s support and the running community’s energy, we’re determined to make this a record year so we can continue to provide much needed equipment and make a direct difference to our families.”

“As one of the longest standing children’s charities in the region, we have always wanted to create opportunities for local kids to support other young people, which is why we’ve created The Sunshine Mile.”
