Stereophonics To Headline This is Tomorrow Festival 2019
Organisers of This is Tomorrow Festival have confirmed that Welsh rock royalty Stereophonics will be joining Noel Gallagher and Foals on the headlining bill for this year's eagerly anticipated event.
Led by the enigmatic Kelly Jones, one of the UK's most prolific singer-songwriters, the band will perform on the festival's new site of Exhibition Park on Sunday 26th May.
Stereophonics’ This is Tomorrow date follows the band’s 2017 gold-certified album ‘Scream Above The Sounds’ – which includes the stunning singles ‘All In One Night’, ‘Caught By The Wind’ and ‘Taken A Tumble.’
Reacting to today's announcement, This is Tomorrow Festival Organiser Steve Davis, said: “We're absolutely delighted to be able to bring Stereophonics to what is a huge outdoor event for Newcastle.
“They are without a doubt one of the biggest and most consistent bands of the last twenty years and we can't wait for their stunning live show to head to This is Tomorrow.
“We've tried our best to deliver one of the strongest festival line-ups the region has ever seen and they don't come much bigger than Stereophonics.!”
This is Tomorrow Festival - which last year welcomed over 30,000 music fans through its gates at Spillers Wharf to take in performances from the likes of Catfish and The Bottlemen - is back once again, this time taking place at its new home of Exhibition Park on Newcastle's Town Moor.
SSD Concerts have said the event, a first of its kind on Exhibition Park, promises to be the largest and most forward-thinking live musical gathering the city has ever witnessed and will take place across the late May Bank Holiday Weekend.
Foals will lead the charge on Friday 24th May followed by the ex-Oasis star Noel Gallagher on Saturday 25th May. And now, Stereophonics will complete the list of heavyweight headliners with their performance bringing the event to a stunning close on Sunday 26th May.
Stereophonics consists of founding members Kelly Jones (vocals/guitar) and Richard Jones (bass) along with Adam Zindani (guitar) & Jamie Morrison (drums). Long-term keyboardist Tony Kirkham joins the band for live shows.
It's over twenty years since their debut album ‘Word Gets Around' sky-rocketed the band to global fame and they've gone on to release a further nine studio albums to date.
Their tenth, 'Scream Above The Sounds,' was released late 2017 to worldwide acclaim and followed 'Keep The Village Alive' which went straight to number one, their sixth char topping success, following the likes of 1999's classic Performance and Cocktails.
The name This Is Tomorrow has its roots placed firmly in the region and was born out of the cutting edge legacy of Newcastle University's ‘Father of Pop Art’ Richard Hamilton and his vision of pushing the boundaries of what is expected.
SSD Concerts has said the event will have a strong ethos of experimentation in defiance of the norm, and there are plans to host alternative art exhibitions alongside a full weekend of expansive and exhilarating live music.
Cllr Kim McGuinness, Newcastle City Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Public Health, added: “It will be a huge pleasure to welcome such a vast array of top-quality artists to This is Tomorrow as it returns for another year.
“Exhibition Park is a beautiful space and it will be the ideal setting for the festival, offering much more room to organisers and music fans alike following its debut at the Quayside last year.
“Our great city has an outstanding track record and real ambition for putting on fantastic events and I’m sure this will be no different with the calibre of artists who will be performing in Newcastle.”
