Northern Lights Newcastle Returns for Year Three with Brand-New Illuminations and a Reimagined Trail

Back for its third magical year, Northern Lights Newcastle will once again illuminate Leazes Park from 27th November – 31st December 2025. The acclaimed mile-long trail of light, sound and festive atmosphere returns completely reimagined—inviting past visitors to experience it anew, and first timers to finally see what all the fuss is about.

The much-loved Leazes Park trail returns with 15 all-new zones, super off-peak prices, and even more festive sparkle.

From glowing surprises to breathtaking displays at every turn, this year’s trail will be Northern Lights’ most creative yet, filled with immersive moments, hidden gems, and festive pit stops.

In addition, there will also be a new Christmas Village full of cracking local food, delicious drinks and plenty of festive cheer!

NEW YEAR, NEW MAGIC

This year’s highlights include:

  • 15 brand new, spectacular illumination zones
  • New Christmas village
  • Super Off-Peak tickets from just £5 for children, £15 for adults, and £37.50 for families, available across 18 different dates.
  • Improved accessibility pledge

Expect glowing tunnels, lakeside reflections, and immersive light art installations—all choreographed to original soundtracks. Whether it’s your first visit or your third, this year’s trail promises a whole new world of wonder.

Roxy Robinson, Creative Director at From the Fields, said: "Newcastle was the very first home of Northern Lights, so it holds a special place in our hearts. We’ve been blown away by the response over the past two years—from families starting festive traditions to visitors coming from across the region to see the show. This year we’re going bigger, brighter and bolder, with brand-new installations and surprises around every corner. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or coming back for more, we promise a magical night to remember."

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of Newcastle NE1 Ltd said: “Newcastle continues to expand its Christmas offer, cementing its position as a must-visit, family-friendly festive destination. We are thrilled to see the return of this immersive light trail, which beautifully showcases Leazes Park and complements the city’s other festive events and activities.Northern Lights is a key attraction in the city’s events calendar, and together with the expanding and improving Christmas markets, help put the city firmly on the festive map, attracting visitors from across the region and from further afield.”

GROWING NATIONALLY, ROOTED LOCALLY
Created by From the Fields—the award-winning team behind Kendal Calling, Bluedot, and Christmas at Bute Park—Northern Lights has rapidly become one of the UK’s most popular light trails. After two sell-out seasons in Newcastle, 2025 will also see the trail returning to Leeds and launching for the first time in Manchester’s Heaton Park, making it a true UK-wide celebration of light and creativity.

The trail has been featured in The Times, The Guardian, Cosmopolitan, Radio Times, BBC Look North, ITV Wales and ITV Tyneside, and praised as “a must-visit for families, couples, and anyone who loves a bit of festive magic.”

With five-star visitor reviews, major media attention and over 200,000 attendees since its launch, Northern Lights Newcastle has become a cornerstone of the city’s festive season.

FESTIVE EXTRAS & COMMUNITY SPIRIT

The Christmas Village will once again serve up mulled wine, hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows and street food from local favourites. Expect cosy fire pits, vintage fairground rides, and photo-worthy moments at every turn.

In 2024, Northern Lights Newcastle collaborated with the Alan Shearer Centre, Newcastle Hospitals Charity, Newcastle United Foundation and Evry to deliver magical experiences and raise funds for local vulnerable communities, families and children.

In 2023, Northern Lights Newcastle helped raise over £21,000 towards the refurbishment of the Leazes Park Playground—part of its continued commitment to supporting local green spaces and the community, with Northern Lights matching all donations from ticket buyers.

ACCESSIBLE & INCLUSIVE BY DESIGN

In 2025, Northern Lights Newcastle is improving how they communicate and support guests with accessibility requirements – offering clearer, more detailed trail information, including maps, accessibility features, and tips for navigating the event. A dedicated email address for accessibility inquiries will also be introduced, allowing guests to reach out directly for personalised, timely support.

Whether it’s supporting mobility needs, offering sensory-friendly options, or providing tailored guidance, the aim is to remove barriers so everyone can enjoy the full experience.

  • Fully accessible flat trail with resting areas
  • Dedicated quiet sessions for neurodivergent guests
  • Queue-jump wristbands for those with additional needs
