Northern Ballet Make a Highly Anticipated Return to Newcastle Theatre Royal

Audience favourite, Northern Ballet return to Newcastle Theatre Royal for an enchanting, week-long run of their critically acclaimed production of Beauty & the Beast (Tue 7 – Sat 11 Nov 2023).

Beauty & the Beast follows the story of a young girl who, in order to save her father’s life, selflessly leaves her family and goes to live with a hideous Beast in his castle. As time goes by, Beauty grows strangely fond of her host but discovers he hides an extraordinary secret – he was once a handsome prince cursed for his vanity and arrogance – but can the Beast find true love and break the spell?

Choreographed by David Nixon CBE, with elaborate mirrored sets created by Duncan Hayler and haute couture-style costumes by Nixon, this enchanting reimagining of the classic fairytale which premiered in 2011 to critical acclaim, promises to showcase the grace, artistry and incredible storytelling of the Northern Ballet company.

Set to a hand-picked score, played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia, featuring emotive pieces composed by Bizet and Debussy, audiences will be transported to a kaleidoscopic world of colour, inhabited by fairies, goblins and sprites.

As one of the UK’s leading and widest touring ballet companies, Northern Ballet’s repertoire features a unique blend of strong classical technique and impressive storytelling. Bold and innovative in its approach, the company pushes the boundaries of what stories can be told through dance.
