North East Prom for LGBT youth

The highly successful LGBTQ+ Youth Prom returns to the North East!

Young people from the North East LGBT community are being invited to the biggest party of the year, as a prom night created especially for them returns.

Northern Pride, which organises popular city festival Newcastle Pride - sponsored by business improvement district NE1, will see the return of its highly successful LGBTQ+ Youth Prom at The Lancastrian Suite, Gateshead, on Friday 23 June.

And young people aged 14-24 – however they identify – are invited to attend the free event, which celebrates young people’s hard work and commitment to issues faced by the LGBT community.

Sponsored by Your Homes Newcastle, the event provides a safe environment where LGBTQ+ youths, along with their friends and allies, can have a prom night they will truly enjoy.

Mark Nichols, Chair of Northern Pride, is delighted to see the event return to the region.“The LGBTQ+ Youth Prom only launched last year as part of the Newcastle Pride Festival calendar and it’s already one of my favourites,” he said.“It’s such an important event for those who may not have attended their own school prom due to things such as bullying, discrimination, or those who simply felt they couldn’t be their true selves in that environment. “And I’m really looking forward to another night of watching our region’s young people be proud and celebrate who they are.”

The evening, which runs from 7pm until 11.30pm, will feature a live performance from Newcastle singer Channy Thompson, along with a buffet, disco and dancing.

The dress code is ‘come as fabulous as you are’ and there are changing facilities available for those who want to get ready at the venue.

Those interested in attending the LGBTQ+ Youth Prom are asked to book their free tickets at https://www.universe.com/yhnyouthprom

Full listings for the wider Newcastle Pride festival including the 10th free Newcastle Pride Weekend, which runs from 21 to 23 July at Newcastle’s Town Moor, are available at http://www.northern-pride.com/
