Newcastle restaurant raises a glass to new wine deal

A popular South East Asian restaurant is teaming up with an independent fine wine company to treat customers to a special deal. Electric East, based in St James’ Boulevard, Newcastle, is working with Gosforth-based Carruthers and Kent to run a ‘bring your own bottle’ offer throughout March. When customers buy a bottle of wine for £8 or over from the Carruthers and Kent shop on Elmfield Road in Gosforth, they can enjoy that bottle with a meal at Electric East, with no corkage fee. Customers must simply show their Carruthers and Kent receipt to staff at Electric East to redeem the offer, which is available from Tuesday – Friday evenings until 31 March 2013. Mark Lagun, manager of Electric East, said: “We’re always keen to work with other North East companies to introduce new offers for our diners, and there’s no doubt that Carruthers and Kent is well-known throughout the city for its choice of fine wines. “This is a great opportunity not only for customers to benefit from a great discount on top quality food and wine, but also to support two local, independent companies right on their doorstep.” Electric East, which features in the Michelin Guide 2013, features Vietnamese furnishings and artwork, a luxurious lounge and an extensive outside dining area. The restaurant has now launched a new venture, Electric East Catering Corp, to showcase its Asian cuisine to street food fans throughout the North East, and will be appearing at a series of festivals in the coming months. The company is available for hire at private soirees such as garden parties, weddings and corporate events, and can tailor specific menus accordingly.
