Newcastle Cocktail Week Gets Off to a Flying Start as Cocktail Lovers Flock to the City
Newcastle Cocktail Week has got off to a flying start, with cocktail lovers across the city embracing the event’s opening weekend and heading out to discover some of Newcastle’s best bars and restaurants.
Running from 2–11 October, Newcastle Cocktail Week brings together 58 venues across the city, each offering an exclusive signature cocktail for between £5 and £7 throughout the event.
From much loved city-centre favourites to independent bars, Cocktail Week is giving visitors the chance to discover new venues, try creative serves and enjoy some of Newcastle’s best cocktails at a great price. Many participating venues are also offering additional deals, including food offers, exclusive cocktail menus and other special promotions.
The opening weekend saw particularly strong demand at some of the city’s most popular venues, with The Alchemist Newcastle serving an impressive 613 of its signature ‘Buzz Bomb’ cocktails.
The Alchemist is also one of Newcastle Cocktail Week’s official wristband collection points, alongside Manahatta, making both venues key starting points for cocktail lovers looking to pick up their wristbands and begin exploring the city.
Kerry Woods, Senior Regional Business Development Manager at The Alchemist, said: “At The Alchemist our origins are championing theatrical cocktails in sublime environments accessible and inclusive to all, so when the opportunity to collaborate with Cocktail Week arose, we had no hesitation to get involved. This year’s serve, the ‘Buzz Bomb’, is an elevated twist on a Highstreet favourite, and the affection shows as we have had a flying start to cocktail week across the first weekend! We’re excited to see what the next 7 days of Cocktail Week have in store!”
Over at Manahatta Newcastle, the opening weekend was equally busy, with 325 of its signature Cocktail Week serve, the Cherry Sour, sold, alongside a further 95 cocktails from its wider menu. The venue also experienced a strong level of walk-in trade throughout the weekend, highlighting the buzz Cocktail Week is bringing to the city centre.
Newcastle Cocktail Week has also partnered with The Gate, with seven venues within the entertainment complex taking part in this year’s event. The partnership gives cocktail lovers even more opportunities to experience Cocktail Week, with a number of participating venues all under one roof.
Inge Johnson-Mitchell, Centre Manager at The Gate, said: "The Gate has been working collaboratively with Cocktail Week since their very first Newcastle event, and we are very pleased to have so many of our venues taking part this year, as the buzz around Cocktail Week get's bigger each time. With seven venues including Fayre Play, Lane 7 and Bally's Casino, sitting alongside new arrivals Kiss Restaurant and Tia's Mexican Cantina plus favourites such as The WonderBar and MOJO there's lots of variety available. Whether you’re after something sweet, fruity, refreshing or with a little kick, there’s a Cocktail Week creation and a venue for you at The Gate."
Alice Christison, Founder of Cocktail Week, said: “It has been fantastic to see Newcastle come alive for Cocktail Week once again, and the response from venues and cocktail lovers over the opening weekend has been amazing. Seeing venues like The Alchemist and Manahatta already seeing such strong sales really shows the appetite there is for Cocktail Week in the city.
We are incredibly proud to bring together 58 venues this year, giving people the opportunity to discover new places, try something different and enjoy some brilliant cocktails at a great price. Newcastle has such an exciting and diverse drinks scene, and we are delighted to be celebrating that alongside our fantastic venue partners across the city.”
