New Gym and Tenpin Bowling Developments Opening 25th May at Eldon Leisure

An extensive £3million project to transform the current facilities at Eldon Leisure situated in the centre of Newcastle is nearing completion for the first phase of works. The centre, managed by charity North Country Leisure (NCL), part of the GLL group, will open the doors to its new state of the art gym and tenpin bowling centre on Bank Holiday Monday 25th May.
Eldon Bowl will be open seven days a week, offering 8 lanes of tenpin bowling, special offers for juniors, students, beActive Leisure Card holders, family and group bookings, with a fully licensed restaurant. Eldon Bowl will be open from 10.30am to 10.00pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 9.00pm on Sundays, with online booking available via the North Country Leisure website.
The new fitness gym will open for a members only preview on Monday 25th May and to the public from Tuesday 26th May. It will be one of the biggest in the North of England and customers will be able to use it as part of the existing membership packages, which also give access to both Gosforth and West Denton Pool and Fitness Centres. The exercise and dance studios and progression weight gym are also being refurbished as part of the works, adding to the choice of classes and variety of equipment already on offer. The gym and studios will be open from Monday to Thursday 7.30am until 9.00pm, Friday 7.30am until 8.00pm and weekends 9.00am until 6.00pm. Additional classes and personal training sessions will form part of the new timetable following the opening.
Roger Tames, Chair of the NCL Newcastle Board of volunteer trustees said “These are exciting times for Eldon Leisure. The centre was ahead of the game when it opened in the mid-seventies. Now these new developments will, once again, put Eldon right at the forefront of leisure facilities in the region. Anyone who has never ventured up our escalator before will be genuinely astonished to see what we have on offer now for all the family. So as the saying goes: ‘Just do it!’ “
The additional developments which are expected to open in mid-June will see the introduction of a new soft play facility and indoor climbing centre. Building works to complete Jungle Jack’s Adventure Soft Play and Vertigo Adventure Climbing are well underway and will offer additional new venues for parties, group bookings and family days out. Another new café area will also be available in Jungle Jacks offering a choice of drinks and snacks.
