New gin house will be just the tonic for Grey Street Audience
One of Newcastle’s most historic buildings is being transformed into a brand new city centre venue as a contemporary gin and draft house.
The Grade II listed building, formerly the Old Turks hotel in High Bridge, will open next month as Pleased to Meet You, creating 40 jobs, following a lavish refurbishment.
Pleased to Meet You is planning to stock more than 50 types of gin on the bar alongside a wide range of local and international craft beers, cocktails, spirits and hand-pulled cask ales paired with quality locally sourced food served with a theatrical presentation.
Work has begun on restoring the façade which will open out on to the street with large bi folding doors and the inside is being completely redesigned, opening 31st of May .
Barry Ladhar, director of Ladhar Leisure, said: “We are very excited by the concept and we’ll have a few surprises in store for our customers”.
“We want to complement the Grey Street area with a venue that combines both beautiful surroundings and a great selection of drinks, expertly served by down to earth knowledgable individuals.
Pleased to Meet You will display their beer taps at the back of the bar, leaving the front clear for staff to display their skills with the cocktails.
Having overseen the transformation of Lady Grey’s and Redhouse recently, Mr Ladhar said this latest venture would create a unique experience in one of Newcastle’s most prestigious areas.
“Pleased to Meet You will be opening alongside the Baltic art gallery and The Stand comedy club on Highbridge,” he said. “It will be a captivating venue in a vibrant area. Whether you want a Gin cocktail with colleagues, bubbles with the girls or a pint of craft with your best pals.”
Pleased to Meet You opens on 31st May.
