NE1’s Screen on the Green Unveils Full Movie Schedule and Celebrates With a Sparkling New Sponsor, Fentimans

With less than one week to go before its eagerly awaited return, on 30th June, NE1 is delighted to announce that this year, Screen on the Green is teaming up with the iconic North East brand, Fentimans, to celebrate a summer of open-air cinema in Newcastle, while marking the brand’s 120th anniversary.
Screen on the Green is a major highlight of NE1’s Summer in the City events calendar. This year it starts with live sporting action from Wimbledon, followed by the Tour de France, before handing over to the main event, over 100 free movies during the six weeks summer holidays.
Now in partnership with Fentimans, NE1’s Screen on the Green promises an even more memorable experience for movie lovers, with the brand planning several promotional activities during the summer programme. Keep an eye out on social media and on NE1’s Summer in the City website for updates on when these pop-ups will take place.
Free open-air movies will be screened each day at 12 and 3pm, perfect for kids, families and cinema lovers of all ages. Over 100 movies will light up the big screen during the six-week movie schedule.
Among the must-see films are three of this year’s record-breaking box office hits: Paddington in Peru, Moana 2 and Minecraft: The Movie, with a whole season of other cinematic favourites for everyone to enjoy.
Tuesday mornings will be reserved for Toddler Takeovers featuring one of Julia Donaldson’s beloved stories each week. This will include favourites like The Gruffalo and Tiddler, all short films, perfect for younger audiences.
Tyneside Cinema takes the reins on Wednesday evenings with some of their signature choices. Among the movies on their watch list are Princess Bride, Barbie, and the multi-award-winning Italian classic, Cinema Paradiso, a beautiful tribute to the magic of cinema.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Fall Guy, and Twisters are among the line up for Blockbuster Thursdays at 6pm, perfect for the post-work crowd.
Another not-to-be-missed film in this summer’s line-up is Wicked, which will be even more memorable at Screen on the Green, as NE1 has lined up a sing-along version to encourage audience participation.
To coincide with Newcastle’s Mela in the City celebrations on 23rd August, Screen on the Green will be showing a selection of vibrant Bollywood films. On 25th August, Shrek lovers will be able to enjoy a Marathon Movie Day with all four films in the Shrek archives screened back-to-back from 10am until 5:30pm.
To wrap up the season, Screen on the Green will be in full party mode for the closing weekend on 30th and 31st August. Crafts, character costume appearances and face painting will mark the end of another fabulous summer. The final films chosen by competition winners will be Ratatouille, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Tangled and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which will add to the weekend’s fun and will provide a wonderful finale to another sensational summer of Screen on the Green.
