M&S Newcastle store in final fundraising push for North East Cancer Charity

A whopping £23,000 rasied by M&S staff and customers in Newcastle branch!

Over the last year, M&S Newcastle customers and employees have raised an astonishing £23,000 for the store’s Charity of the Year, Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care, and are hoping to raise a further £2,000 in the next month to fund the purchase of a new custom-made ambulance for the charity.

Last year Daft as a Brush provided 20,000 cancer patient journeys free of charge across the North East for patients who are undergoing Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy cancer treatment at Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary. A fleet of 22 ambulances are currently operated by 300 volunteers and the charity relies on local fundraising and donations to help make this a reality.

The new ambulance this year will help the charity to be involved in 30,000 cancer patient journeys, including children, to and from their treatment sessions across Newcastle as well as throughout the Northumberland, North and South Tyneside and Durham regions.

Nikki McKidd, Store Manager for M&S Newcastle, said: “We are overwhelmed with the generosity of our customers and are thrilled to have raised such a significant amount for Daft as a Brush. It’s a cause that’s close to the hearts of our employees and the local community and we’re hoping that over the next month we can raise a final £2,000 to help fund a new ambulance for such a worthy cause.”

The store will be hosting bag packing events throughout March to help reach the £25,000 target.
