Love Local, Love Late Night Market - in our famous Grainger Market!
After the huge success of our first ever late night opening event, on the 1st December, we are pleased to announce another evening event on Saturday 20th May from 5pm until 9pm.
We are delighted that this event will join a whole host of other events and venues as part of The Late Shows culture crawl (www.thelateshows.org.uk) and also be part of the National Love Your Local Market fortnight (www.loveyourlocalmarket.co)
‘Loving Local’ is the theme, and during the event you can take the unique opportunity to stroll around Newcastle’s historic Grainger Market after hours, with friendly stall holders offering discounts, samples, promotions and workshops.
You will be able to experience everything from belly dancers (Fez Food), how to upcycle furniture (Vintagera),take part in a workshop on perennial gardening (Hoam Grown) and Spanish wine tasting (La Casa Delicatessen) and a cheese experience (Mathews Cheese).
On the night, we are also hosting some of the shining stars of the North East art and design scene having pop up stalls, where you can meet, chat and buy.
We have a busy programme of music and entertainment to suit all tastes throughout the evening.
o Local bands and musicians including Jazz Riot, Segedunum Rust, Alian Pizza Van, Benny Graham, Bamboo Shoots and Brent and the Brads will be all be playing on the night.
o Geordie magician and escapologist Chris Cross will be performing early doors,
o Kaleidoscope will be dancing and we are delighted to welcome back Lindy Jazz, who will be putting a swing in our step, with Lindy Hop demonstrations and a Charleston ‘Dance-Along’ session. We will even end the night with a bang and some beautiful burlesque by the lovely Scarlet Rose.
o You can discover facts about the markets 180 year history, with regular heritage tours throughout the evening and take the opportunity to see one of the Grainger Market’s biggest secrets…. the air raid shelter.

The Grainger Market has a growing reputation for housing excellent street food vendors who are opening as part of this event, so you can eat tasty bites from France, America, Turkey, Italy, China, Britain, enjoy some great local Ice-cream from Mark Toney’s and drinks from our pop-up bar. So, there’s no need to rush home for dinner! Come into the market from 5pm (or earlier!), enjoy some food, entertainment and history and then head off to enjoy the rest of the Late Shows.
Finally, in keeping with the Love Local theme we will be fundraising for our newest arrival in the market - Newcastle West End Foodbank (www.newcastlewestend.foodbank.org.uk)
