INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle and Baltic Continue Art Partnership with New Exhibition by Sofia Barton

Following the success of its initial art collaboration, INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle, part of Meliá Hotels International, has announced a new phase of its ongoing partnership with the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.

From Tuesday 1st July 2025, the hotel’s gallery space will showcase a fresh installation by Sofia Barton, a North East-based artist known for her vibrant, culturally resonant work.

This year round partnership between INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle and Baltic transforms the hotel’s public areas into a curated cultural experience, allowing guests and visitors to encounter contemporary art in a dynamic hospitality setting. Barton’s exhibition follows the hotel’s inaugural collaboration with artist Jimmy Turrell, which ran from April through June 2025.

From the North East, Sofia Barton crafts compelling illustrations and murals that draw on themes of heritage, hidden histories, and the power of nature. Sofia’s work interweaves culture, identity, and well being into a vibrant tapestry that reflects her strong ties to both her Punjabi heritage and local surroundings.

Sofia’s new exhibition features a captivating series of matchbox prints, inspired by her Punjabi heritage. The works also reflect her travels and deep connection to the North East. Rich in symbolism, and bold colour palettes, the pieces include visual nods to the seaside, famous local landmarks, and the cultural identity of the region. Beyond the imagery, Sofia’s practice remains rooted in social engagement and the power of community connection through art.

This collaboration aligns with INNSiDE Newcastle’s #StayCurious ethos, celebrating the city’s creative landscape and spotlighting local talent through meaningful cultural experiences. All artworks in the exhibition will be available to purchase via Baltic Shop, offering art lovers a chance to take home a piece of the region’s creativity.

INNSiDE Newcastle, located on the city’s historic Quayside, officially opened on 17th May 2021 and features 161 rooms, a vibrant Open Living Lounge, and Gino D’Acampo Quayside, the hotel’s restaurant, bar, and outdoor terrace with views across the River Tyne.

The new exhibition by Sofia Barton will be on display at INNSiDE Newcastle from Tuesday 1st July 2025. Further artist collaborations will be announced throughout the year.
