Here’s What You Can Expect to See inside Hadrian’s Tipi

You may have heard about it, or more likely seen it, already – it’s pretty hard to miss!
Inspired by Thor’s Tipi, which popped up in York last year, Danieli Holdings has introduced the conical attraction to the North East this festive season.
Hadrian travelled in the region during the year AD122 and built the notorious wall which marked the northern limit of Britannia.
The Roman Emperor sets up camp outside Central Station from Thursday 10th November until Sunday 1st January. Here’s what you can expect to see inside!
Food
Prepare your taste buds for a smorgasbord of continental foods, including Frankfurters and Bratwursts prepared with locally-sourced meat, as well as a range of vegetarian and vegan options.
Alongside a donut kitchen (yes, you heard us!), which will be serving up tasty rings of pure goodness, you’ll also find an array of award-winning cakes for your consumption. No calorie-counting in this tipi, we’re afraid!
Drink
Not only is the tipi pouring out hot cider and mulled wine to warm up your cockles but there will be a fantastic selection of beers, ciders and ales on offer from none other than our pals over at Wylam Brewery.
Hadrian’s Tipi is a fully licenced bar, serving alcohol from 10am. However, if that’s too early for a tipple (is it ever too early?), then you’re in luck because teas and coffees will also be available. And we hear that Hadrian’s hot chocolate is simply irresistible, by the way.
Entertainment
If you’re heading along for the grand opening at 7pm this evening, you’re in for a real treat. Think short skirts and lots of embellishment… Wait, we’re not talking about Saturday nights at Tup Tup but actors from Quinta, who’ve donned their tunics especially for the occasion.
These Roman soldiers are educated historians who are happy to share their knowledge with anyone who’s interested. Hail, Hadrian!
Atmosphere
Of course, you can grab a drink at any number of the fantastic bars in the toon, but the question is: can you sip on a ‘gluhwein’ (that’s mulled wine to us civilians) beside a log pit fire, under a canopy of twinkling lights, in a double tipi-style tent, anywhere else?
This ain’t your traditional English pub, that’s for certain. If you’re looking for a change of scenery, Hadrian’s Tipi really is the most insta-worthy place to visit in Newcastle this winter.
Festivities
Hadrian’s Tipi is offering up their dynamic space to any youth group that might be interested – free of charge, we should add. So, whether you’re a school choir looking for a performance venue, or a drama club needing a place to rehearse, the tipi is here to help!
There’s also the opportunity to hire out the tipi for Christmas parties or other festive events. With a capacity of 180 people, the possibilities are endless! Just make sure to book in advance… Contact [email protected] for more information.
Pets
If you’re a dog owner, like many of us are, you probably won’t disagree that there is a severe lack of hound-friendly venues within the city centre. Well, look no further than Hadrian’s Tipi.
No need to tie the poor pooch up outside in the cold, when the tipi can provide both us and our canine companions with warmth and shelter from the brisk winter winds. (Sorry, cat people!)
Travel
We recommend parking in Grainger Town Car Park, which happens to be free after 5pm (thanks to Alive After Five), and making the short walk down Neville Street towards Central Station. Alternatively, ride the Metro to Central Station for ultimate convenience, particularly if you’re planning on taking advantage of the dizzying selection of alcoholic beverages on offer at the tipi.
Opening Times
8am – 1am, 10th November – 1st January 2016
