Help Keep Newcastle’s History Sparkling: Volunteer Open Day at Newcastle Castle
Looking for a meaningful way to give back to the city while experiencing one of its most iconic landmarks in a whole new way? Newcastle Castle is inviting locals to roll up their sleeves and get involved in a special one-day-only Volunteer Open Day.
Taking place on Monday 11 May, 11am–3pm, the event combines a Big Spring Clean with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the historic site, offering a rare opportunity to see what goes on beyond the visitor experience.
Perfect for anyone curious about volunteering, the day promises a friendly welcome (with tea, coffee and biscuits, of course!) alongside the chance to meet the staff and volunteers who help keep the Castle running day-to-day.
Attendees will get an introduction to the charity’s work and future plans, explore hidden corners of the site, and find out how they can play a part in preserving one of Newcastle’s most treasured landmarks.
It’s all about getting stuck in.
From gardening and weeding in the Castle Garth to cleaning historic spaces, litter picking, and even helping organise some of our interior spaces, there are plenty of hands-on ways to make a difference.
Whether you can spare a few hours or are considering regular volunteering, this is a great way to get involved and see what suits you.
The event is FREE and you'll get to experience the site in a whole new way alongside the castle team!
The event begins in the Harbottle Suite in the Black Gate. Comfortable clothes are recommended, and expect a bit of physical activity, as the Castle’s historic architecture includes plenty of stairs and uneven floors.
If you’ve ever wanted to step behind the scenes of Newcastle Castle and be part of something that supports local heritage and community, this is your chance.
Spaces are limited - don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to help keep Newcastle’s history alive!
